Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have two horribly destructive dogs and after a little over a year I think I've been patient enough. Does anyone have any suggestions on inexpensive Nanny Cam's to see who is the culperate? I have one mix sold to us as a F2 LD but as she grew thought she may have been a jackadoodle but at 18 mths she is looking real pointerish, I recently saw a Brittany that was the same coloring and look just different coat? Then my LD has severe separation anxiety and vet once suggested destruction was a typical side effect of the anxiety!

We walk, do the dog park, dog beach, and I play fetch EVERY NIGHT ALL NIGHT with the LD before going to bed (she CAN NOT sit still). I even give them a treat filled kong when I leave for work and don't make a fuss coming or going. I have an anxiety wrap for the LD I need to try (waiting for the cooler weather).

Of all the dogs I've owned these two take the cake. They are confined to the back room and backyard but the destruction is still out of this world and daily. I can't leave them outside because they cry, bark, and howl and I have one neighbor who's a real jerk (seven outdoor cats and he gets mad at the dogs in the neighborhood for barking at them - as they lounge on my sheds and roof)!

I was thinking if I can video and find out who is the problem I could get professional help for the right one, unfortunately we live on a very tight income. If I can narrow down the problem then focus on it.

I'll post this on the health issues site too, but just curious if any else's puppy is out of control constantly. Thanks.

Destruction is a coping mechanism associated with severe anxiety. If your doodle's anxiety is to this point it is doubtful the anxiety wrap will fix it. Dogs with noise phobia/anxiety / fear have been known to claw through doors, subfloors and jump out windows in an attempt to escape their fear. It is very serious and needs to be dealt with carefully. Just from what you have said above I am willing to bet anxiety is the problem. Their is an anxiety group on dk you might want to check it out.

Thanks I will look into the anxiety group, I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation.  The vet suggested I give it a year to see if she mellows but that hasn't happened.  We were doing better but I think my sister visiting with her dog then leaving made it worse?  She said she could hear Sassy crying several blocks away!  We tried the anxiety wrap briefly and for the short time we had it on her she was almost comotose (sp?).  It was eery I wouldn't of believed it had I not seen it.  Their specialist claim she'll be cured in two weeks but we have to wait for cooler weather because she gets real hot?  Then totally ingoring her for two weeks is gonna be hard on me, she's my baby girl!  I thought I'd try it and see what happens?  If not then I'll get a specialist in.  I know the other dogs mouths/chews things so I'm not sure who is at fault or if the two are in cahoots?  Her separation anxiety is definitely with me and I think it also now involves the other dog.  I've discovered at the dog park she can't be out of sight of the other dog without panicking?  Sassparilla just wants to play fetch at the park no interest in socializing but Josie loves to run and will chase who ever is on the move which can be across the park.  When Sassy realizes she's missing she panics and begins to search for her, tackles her then returns to me to play?  They are halarious together, a true odd couple!

I am confused......who says she will be cured in 2 weeks? And why on earth would you ignore her for two weeks? Very rarely is anxiety ever cured, it is managed.

The specialist from the Anxiety Wrap company (they were recommended over the thundershirt folks). I have to dig their instructions out but apparently according to them you have to break the anxiety connection then start over?? I'll look for their instructions and post them, I bought the wrap in the dead heat of the summer so we put it away for a rainy day. Come to think of it I think I'm supposed to separate the dogs too! That may not work.

Unfortunatley she is not a cuddly dog which breaks my heart, but I think that's part of her anxiety she just can not sit still. My daughter has aspergers and ADHD and this pup is way worse! lol

Her cuddling is presenting her toys and shoving them in our faces, that's about as close as she gets then mornings when I first wake up she gets on the bed and we have some quality time where she rolls over and lets me rub her belly. I'm forever late to work because I cherish that time she gives me!

Our other dog would climb inside us if she could, they are truely opposites?

My dog never cuddled until he matured.  Most dogs HATE hugging. It makes them really really nervous so caution with the hugging. Take it on their terms and when you can get it. Most pups are busy and really don't find it fun to stop what they are busy doing.  It really comes with age.

Regardless of the company, the wraps work  the same. Pressure and the calming effect on the  Nervous System.

FYI-are you aware they have blankets now for Asperger Children?  It works similar to the dog wraps.  The blankets are 20lbs and many say they provide a calming effect   "_

I encourage you to do some real research on canine behavior and anxiety, Make an appointment with a canine behaviorist and or specialist. If your dog is suffering from anxiety......it is just that, suffering. There is no waiting for a rainy day and there is no wrap that is going to cure your dog in 2 weeks.

Ronna,

Perfectly said!   There are no home cures, no remedies, no pheromone plug-ins, no mircles.

This dog is suffering terribly.  See the vet. You will be glad you did.  And, you will ask yourself, " Why did I wait so long?"

Ronna and I have both experienced this heartache  and suffered along with our dogs. We get it, we get you. Hope you followup.

Thank you I will ask again.  I do ask everytime we go to the vet.  Now that she's over a year maybe he'll take a new approach?

That's another reason why I want to video to see what and who is doing the destruction, is it just her or both?????  The other dog is real skiddish so she may have issues I haven't picked up on?

Picking up Sasparilla we had no doubt there was a separation issue.  In the crate the vet said she was hyperventalating and having a panic attack so I had to cancel my plane ticket and rent a car then at the hotel I wasn't able to shower without her at my feet!  Out of sight she panicked.

Besides the above they have drug in some logs and huge pieces of wood that had to take some configuring to get them through the doggy door.  Several have been between 3-5 feet in length and 6 inches or more wide?  First I have no idea where in the yard they found the wood and second how did they get it through a doggy door?????

The vet did tell me with anxiety there are only two ways a dog releases that pent up engery either chewing or running! When I'm home on the weekends we always take one day to go to the dog park or beach, then during the week I walk them. In the summer we were hitting the dog park every other day and that was helping but with the time change they close a dusk so I'm not even home yet!

We have a school next door we used to take my last dog to play but they lock it up now so we can't get in! Thanks to those who DON'T pick up after their dogs! Our yard isn't big enough to really run, they do circles around the patio creating a dust storm.

During the Thanksgiving break we hit the dog beach every day and for the first time she was actually tuckered out and didn't demand my undivided attention at night.

I cannot help with the nanny cam or the separation anxiety, but I totally sympathize with the crazy feral cat neighbors. My dog so much as barks and they complain, but their cats leave deposits in my gardens and flower beds daily!

Same here they even get on my roof and terriorize my cat through the bedroom window.  She's 18 and very arthritic and all his cats are males and not fixed!  They howl, fight, spray on our doors/screens, lay on our sheds/roof and leave kitty poops all over the yard/garden.  One even died in my front yard and I had to call the pound to pick it up!  He once accused our neighbors dogs of attacking him because they would bark all day at the cats.  They had to go to court and when he couldn't describe them to the judge he lost!  Our neighbor almost lost his dogs because this idiot lied!

I've been in the backyard when this jerk would throw dirt clauds and lemons at my parents dogs.  His wife works at the sheriff station and so somehow he's untouchable!
