Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Just recently I posted a blog about Daisy loving my afternoon charge, Noah my friends 7 month old....she is also in love with Sophia next door who is turning 2 on the 18th. Today at work one of my customers brought in her little girl Cassy who is 3....she is from Mexico and barely speaks English but she knows Daisy and calls out to her when she comes in Daisy, Daisy, Daisy...well, true to form my Daisy loves her too.
I can't believe I am so lucky, she is a gentle giant and it's all her. My last dog would have nothing to do with little people and I never let him go near them after the first incident. I was nervous the first 50 times she met a child or baby but no more. Of course you always have to be aware but pretty it's pretty obvious Daisy has good manners when it comes to children and babies.
Cassy's Mom snapped this picture, isn't it cute.

Bridget absolutely adores kids and loves to be around them. This morning I had her at the Children's Hospital visiting and she was so happy!! She loves to snuggle in for some lovin' and gives plenty of kisses to all of the kids :)
Karen, you are so lucky. Bridget is doing what I wanted Daisy to do but she is too frightened of all things unknown. Originally I wanted Daisy to be a Therapy Dog, passed the test but then her personality didn't fit due to her being a Chicken Doodle. If a metal bedpan hit the floor she probably would go through the ceiling.
Darwin is really good with little kids! He never jumps and is very nice and calm with them. The only thing I have a gripe with is how he exploits them. He's figured out that taking food out of kid's hands is easy as pie (pun intended) so he has become very adept at doing just that. We have to be extra careful now that the kids he's around aren't holding any dangerous foods. The little pig. :-)
Good girl Daisy!
Darwin, tell Mom if the little one's want to share it's not your fault ; -)
Tank can get overly excited with new people but not if they are little kids. We were out not long and a couple with a toddler in a stroller wanted to pet him. I warned them about the licking and that I couldn't control but they were fine. I held the leash very tight but he was a total gentlemen. He was so still and let the little boy pet and hug him (and didn't even lick). I was so proud. Sully loves kids more than anything. If we're walking and he sees kids, he will whine until they come over and pet him. If they don't, he is hurt. Beau can take them or leave them but he doesn't jump. Just isn't interested.
Cyndi, that is what is so cool about them, they know to be gentle. Oh I have seen that hurt look before.
Babies and toddlers are JD's favorite people in the world, and have been since the day I met him. The first thing he did when they brought him into the "get acquainted" room at the shelter was head straight for my grandson and put his head in his lap.
A stroller coming down the sidewalk towards us makes his tail go around in circles, lol. He loves to put his face up to a baby's and just sniff. Unfortunately, this makes a lot of parents very nervous, as JD has a head like an Irish Wolfhound.
"Good with kids" was one of my deal-breakers when I was looking at adoptable dogs. All of my dogs have been good with little ones. Sadly, many, many doodles are relinquished to rescue because not all of them are.
Sweet Daisy is obviously just like JD with little people. Good girl, Daisy!
See Karen, I told you JackDoodle was meant to be yours, he knew exactly what to do to make it happen. Head on the grandson's lap, come on, that is one sweet and smart dood.
What an adorable picture, Lisa. Finnegan is good with children too. As a pup, he would get excited and jump on other dogs and people but never children. If children were sitting in a group and wanted to pet him, he would instinctively lay down and belly up to them. He liked to lay next to my youngest grandson when he was a baby and he would walk around him so carefully we all had to laugh. Was this really the same dog who was using the family room for an agility course the day before?? I have noticed that as the boys have gotten older, 2 and 4 now, I do have to watch a little closer. Generally they're all fine together but if the boys get the zoomies and start whooping and running, Finn doesn't whoop, he barks. Still watching them all sit together in a row in front of the TV watching Homeward Bound (where was my camera?), priceless!
Seriously, we need cameras on us every instant of the day, maybe I will invent a necklace that you can hang a camera from.
I didn't have a camera when Cassy came in but her Mom did, I had gone to get something and when I got back she showed me the photo...of course she then had to send it to me.
Let me know when you invent that camera necklace, Lisa!
Peri's great with kids. She has even tolerated some pulling of the ears (I quickly stop that even though they aren't my kids) and more...she just smiles and keeps on lovin' them. We are lucky for that. She has appointed herself "nanny" to Charlotte :)
