Hello,

I'm writing this today becasue I am quite confused about my little buddy. He is about eight months old now and his coat is so odd. On his back I can start to see a  curl coming in and he does have feathering but his face is completely smooth. I have no clue what he will look like when he's older. It seems that half of his fur is smooth and the other in growing in curly. I was wondering if anybody could help me with figuring out what in the world his coat will look like. The pictures I attached are him at  eight weeks and then at 6 months and the last is a picture of a close up of his coat.

It looks like your boy did not get the gene for the facial furnishings, which is what gives them the shaggy eyebrows and muzzle and the beard. That's a separate gene from the ones for curly coats and for long hair. He definitely has a smooth face, also called an "open" face, and it's unlikely that's going to change. He's a very pretty dog, and very unique looking!

I agree.

I agree is is very pretty, almost looks like he's got the colorings of a spaniel! Is he a first generation cross? Do you know what his siblings look like?

My BB has a different texture to the hair along his spine, it is more coarse than the hair on his legs/face/chest/etc. It looks a lot like the hair on Dexter's back. His coat didn't change until about 1 year, so you probably have a couple of months to go before he settles into a final coat type. Either way, he really is beautiful!

I had the same thought. His coloring and markings, as well as the shorter ears,  look very much like a Springer Spaniel. I'm curious about the parents as well.

Or a border collie?

Maybe, but the freckling/speckling looks more spaniel to me.

Ashley, he is sooo cute!  He does look very curly in spots and from what our Libby did, it changes a lot!  I love his coloring and he will be a beautiful grown up Doodle soon:)

I pretty much have to agree with everyone else ... he is adorable, that is what he is.  I love his freckles on his face.

He is adorable!  Gavin had those big loose curls on his back and after about a year and his first grooming it came back a bit softer and wavier.  Here are my now famous comparison photos:

Today I realized Willow's coat has also became much looser too. (She's 2 yrs 9 mo.) I don't quite remember from when, since we kept her coat short since her first coat change (read: matting) around 10 month. Did Gavin also become lighter in color? Willow did. Her shot from the back would look exactly like Gavin's.

It is lighter for sure, but I think this picture is a bit deceiving due to sun position and the light blowing out his coat a bit.

Wow, I have not see these of Gav! His coat looks like Auggie's in the first picture.

Dex is very unique-looking. I would love to hear more about his parents since he does look like a spaniel-doodle, not a goldendoodle, with all those freckles.
