Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Wherever we go, people ask me what breed of dog Duncan is. I think a lot of folks have an image that comes to mind when they think of a labradoodle, and my Dood (with his black, straight-ish fur) apparently does not fit the description :). When people ask what breed he is and make a guess, they come up with the following:

Irish Wolf Hound -65% of guesses
Portuguese Water Dog - 20% of guesses
Labradoodle - 10% of guesses
Giant Schnauzer 5% of guesses

Ok, so I personally think the Giant Schnauzer and Water Dog are a bit of a stretch, but a lot of people do think he is an Irish Wolf Hound. I am curious - what breeds do people mistake your doodle for?

Wheaten and poodle

Hmmm,  Having had an Irish Wolf Hound mix for 13 years, I just can't imagine Finnley being mistaken for that breed. However, I often hear Portuguese Water Dog. Maybe it's because she is black, I don't know. I do know that those goofy well meaning people that try to talk like they are all dog savy after asking about what kind of dog she is, always make me chuckle ! :)

I always thought Irish Wolf Hounds were huge, but then again so are some doodles! Was yours massive? I didn't know much about them until everyone thought Duncan was one, but I must say I love the look!

Both my doodles get mistaken for poodles, Sasha (goldendoodles) is very poodley and Oliver (Labradoodle) is curly too but not as tight as Sasha.  Most of the time people just ask what breed is Oliver or as if he is a Protugese water dog.

Wheaton, Labradoodle and one person asked if Haley was an Afghan Hound.

With Molly it's always Poodle, no one ever seems to think she's a doodle! And with Teddy, we haven't been out enough with him but the few times we have, it has always been doodle or wheaten. Doodles are getting more common around here though so hopefully that changes in the future.

Guinness gets mistaken for a Poodle or Cockapoo often...understandably.  With Murph, people seem to know right away that he's either a Labradoodle or a Goldendoodle.

Most people think that she is a cockapoo or at times the question is "what is mixed with the poodle"? She still has her puppy fur so we will see what the future brings.

People will stop us at rest stops and on the street, taking pictures of our dogs and their puppies. Most people ask what they are, and we tell them they're Goldendoodles, but they'll just simply repeat,"Okay, doodles." No one ever remembers the golden part!

I don't think it's weird at all. I have had lots of people take photos of Darwin and most of them tell me they want to show their family members or friends the cute dog. Plus, having asked a couple of Great Dane breeders if I could pose with their dogs when I was younger, I know I wasn't being icky or weird or anything, so I give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

Hey, just wait till you are trying to pose "two" for a photo op!

I get Wheaten guesses all the time...

My favoirte part is when I tell them she is a goldendoodle they kind of give me a head tilt sometimes..I giggle and tell them she is part golden ret and part standard poodle.  I think they picture her mom and dad as a golden ret and a small poodle and get this look of "how did that work" on their faces LOL!  S I explain "no, she is part golden and part "big poodle"!
