Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Wherever we go, people ask me what breed of dog Duncan is. I think a lot of folks have an image that comes to mind when they think of a labradoodle, and my Dood (with his black, straight-ish fur) apparently does not fit the description :). When people ask what breed he is and make a guess, they come up with the following:

Irish Wolf Hound -65% of guesses
Portuguese Water Dog - 20% of guesses
Labradoodle - 10% of guesses
Giant Schnauzer 5% of guesses

Ok, so I personally think the Giant Schnauzer and Water Dog are a bit of a stretch, but a lot of people do think he is an Irish Wolf Hound. I am curious - what breeds do people mistake your doodle for?

I run into this:

If I say he is a "Labradoodle" I get the "oooooooh - fancy "designer breed" expression and eye roll.

If I say lab/poodle mix I get "Um, you mean a labradoodle?"

There is no winning sometimes! :)

60% of the time.... oh she is so cute... What kind of dog is she?
20% Labradoodle
20% Wheaton Terrier
When Maddie was about 8 months old and before she had a short haircut, we were walking on a trail along a busy street in town. A van stopped, a man jumped out and yelled "is that an Afghan"?

Most people now ask if she's a Labradoodle or Goldendoodle and they are quite surprised when I say she's an Irishdoodle.

It's a little hard to tell from this picture, but Wally is often mistaken for an Afghan hound -- probably because of his long silky ear hair.  When I explain that he's actually an Australian labradoodle, some people say, "No, he's definitely a goldendoodle!"

I love when they argue with you about what breed your dog is, lol. I can't tell you how many people have told me that JD cannot possibly be a Labradoodle, because "They don't shed". I usually tell them that somebody forgot to tell JD.

LOL...

Karen,  I'm not sure whether or not you saw my report that Charlotte is now fine.  Thanks for all of your food suggestions.  I think that I found a solution that works for her -- hooray!

I did see it, and I'm very glad. :-)

Yeah, Duncan must have missed that memo too (and I say this as I vacuum up the black "tumbleweeds" of hair that are rolling around my floor!)

I can definitely see why people would mistake Wally for Afghan hound. He's such a beautful doodle!

Why, thank you!  He's such a sweetie, too.

Laurie, this picture of Wally is beautiful and he is one "handsome", "gorgeous" Doodle!
