Could this be an ingrown hair? This picture I uploaded was from 2 weeks ago. It's kind of hard to see. It's not that big now and has shruken signficantly in size. I can only see it if I move the hair back now. When it was larger, Charley would lick at it and it would scab over and get a dark spot in the middle. Then that scab would fall off and then the cycle continues. I wasn't going to take him to the vet because it was slowly going away, but now he is getting one on his bottom lip. :( I looked through some of the discussions on here about the viral papilloma, but it doesn't seem to match that. Those pictures looks like warts. This doesn't look like a wart (or at least to me). So I will have to call the vet and make an appt. but I just wanted to see if you all had any input or experience with something that looks like this.

That's not an ingrown hair. I would have the vet take a look at it, it sounds like it's bothering him and if it's getting larger and smaller and scabbing up, it should probably be seen.
Thank you Karen.
Have you noticed any fluid or puss coming out of it? Either way I would have a vet take a look.
Yes. There was a little pus that came out a couple of times. Which is why I thought it was an in grown hair but now that he is getting one on his bottom lip, I'm getting nervous. Appt. has been made for Friday afternoon.
I agree about getting this checked with a vet. Tara had a similar looking growth on her neck that turned out to be a cyst. Eventually it reabsorbed on its own. But this sounds and looks a little different. Let us know what you find out!
Thanks. I will. Appt. has been made for Friday afternoon.
Ok, the vet said he believes it to be a histiocytoma. The one shown in the picture is gone now. The one on his bottom lip has not gotten bigger and it is not opening up and scabbing yet like the one on the top of his lip did. He said we could take it off but since the other went away on its own, he wants to give this one time to go away too. If it does open up I can put neosporin on it. So now we just watch and wait....... I haven't had time to really research it but will try to later. Apparently though it can be common in puppies...something about them putting their faces into everything.....
They're benign little tumors, nothing to worry about. I'm glad you went to the vet, now you know and can have peace of mind, and so can we, lol!
