See....I knew it wasn't us, it's those Dang Doors

Thank Goodness finally a logical answer! hahahahaha

.Subject: It's the doors

Whew! What a relief to learn this...

Ever walk into a room with some purpose in mind, only to completely forget what that purpose was?

Turns out, doors themselves are to blame for these strange memory lapses.

Psychologists at the University of Notre Dame have discovered that passing through a doorway triggers what's known as an event boundary in the mind, separating one set of thoughts and memories from the next. Your brain files away the thoughts you had in the previous room and prepares a blank slate for the new locale.

So it's not aging, it's those stupid doors!!

Thank goodness for scientific studies like this.

Oh man, it's worse than I thought.  I just read this post to my husband.  His response:  "I told you that awhile back."  I don't remember having that conversation with him.  Guess I'm really losing it!!!

That must be why the open floor plan concept is so popular in new homes; no silly doors to cause memory issues.

Awesome - one less thing to worry about.  The study didn't perhaps investigate how to return the memory of why you origingally went through the door.

The best thing about being in the leading edge of the Baby Boom is that things are invented just as I need them.  I am totally into Leslie's corallary to the event boundary - open houses cause obesity.  When I designed the remodel of this house 35 years ago I designed it as open concept thereby ensuring myself of a reason that I put on a few pounds every year. Way to go Leslie!!

Well I guess that explains why I forget I was looking for my glasses.   It does not explain why I can't find them once I remember I'm looking for them :-)

I read about this and wanted to stand up and Cheer - "I'm really not losing it, HURRAY"!!!

I totally believe this!  I remember at work I would leave my office and forget what I was doing and then I would turn around and go back into the room where I lost my thought and it would come back to me.  Happened all the time!  The staff used to laugh at me as I said "just a minute, I will be right back."  Of course at that time I would be juggling so many things!  My mind is much less cluttered now :)
