Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I know we have discussed this many times. But FYI here's the scoop on my two as of today. Both doodles are four as of plan renewal in March, although Luca, can it be, will be five later in the month. The premium is $362 for each The rep, who was very nice when I just called, said that the rates depend on the pet's age, area where you live and the breed. So unless you move everything is based on the age of the pet. My two policies increased $40 from last year. I have a gold plan with $200 deductible, 20% copay and $20,000 limit.

When I asked about future increase the rep suggested I get quotes with different birth dates, which I though was an interesting idea. Of course inflation could really change things.

Yes it is basic, won't cover anything until her $5000 deductible is met. Much like PetPlan, it does not cover office visits, preventative, wellness or per-existing. It will keep her from losing the farm if she should get seriously ill or has a serious accident that requires hospital care.

My son has a 'catastrophe' plan with Blue Cross that costs him $99. mo and he is only 24!  His plan is a $4,500. deductible with two $40. dr visits per year.  He just broke his hand playing Ultimate Frisbee so we are going to find out just how well that plan pays.  He had outpatient surgery to put 'wires' in to hold the bones together for the hand part of the third and fourth finger bones.  Next comes surgical removal of the wires and then therapy.  The medical clinic he goes to, put his charges into different categories so according to them, he will owe $7,500 rather than the $4,500. I wish I understood insurance so that I could help him.

I am sorry to hear this Nancy. This doesn't sound fair payment wise.

Wow!  I hope the surgery is successful and that he has full function of his hand and fingers. However, I don't understand how the classification into different categories could be right since it was one accident.  He should talk to his doctor and try to get the billing codes to reflect one incident.

So sorry about your son Nancy and hope his hand heals and he regains total function of his hand and fingers. They can do amazing work with pins, surgery and therapy now days.  Ins. baffles me beside the outrages premiums we pay. Then trying to get a straight answer is almost unheard with the companies.

Nancy, so sorry for your son's injury. As far as the two categories that is nonsense. Clearly it was coded improperly...the clinic would want to be paid by the insurance company rather than risk slow payments from a 24 year old. I think phone calls are in line. Good Luck.

Thank you all so much for your well wishes.  I am - well he is - going to wait until we see what the insurance company says they will cover before starting our complaining.  I am hoping the person from the clinic was quoting him from the 'top of her head' rather than having specifically checked. He is being stubbornly independent in trying to handle it himself so...... I really hope he regains full use of that hand because he has a job that requires full hand mobility - send a kid to college so he can get a more cerebral job and what does he do?  Graduate with tons of student loans due and get a job installing skylights and welding - neither requiring that degree.

I never noticed this before, but on the Pet Plan site you can do a side by side comparison to some of the other pet plan companies.

That's great. I hadn't seen that. I guess also that they have some confidence in their plan.

We have PetPlan for Stuart and they have been great for him (in MI at the moment and papers in FL so don't know what we are paying right now), Rooney doesn't have it and it is way too late for him to get it.  He had some early tummy issues and we have suspected allergies for some time - there wouldn't be much that wouldn't be considered pre-existing.

Some of the best advice to new puppy parents (even more important for a rescue as you don't know the back ground) is to get that insurance!  In Stuart's case it has been a God send.

Was one of the pet insurance companies giving a discount for doodlekisses members?

By the way if we get insurance, Clancy becomes a mixed breed dog.

you can get a discount on PetPlan by putting in the code doodle.  I do though seem to remember someone talking about trying to work a deal with some company but I don't remember which one.  On PetPlan you can get up to 15% with any combination of deals (multi-dog, on line, doodle) but you can't get over 15%.  I believe they also donate $25 or something to Doodle Messenger with the doodle code.
