Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

This probably should be a blog, but I'll include a question so it can fit under the "definition" of a discussion.  Anyway, I'm wondering if Doodles know whether they're boys or girls once they're neutered?  My Guinness often acts kind of "girly" while Murph acts really macho all the time....except when he's scared of something then he runs crying to his Mommy (not unlike most men I've met).  So do they actually have "sexual behavioral characteristics"?  You may wonder why this would even come up or why I'd care.  Here's the story.  I was in our pet store a couple weeks ago and I saw a beautiful dog bed....really pretty floral that would go really well with my living room colors.  I loved it and brought it home.  It was actually for Guinness since it's on the smaller side.  Here it is...

My DH took one look at it and asked if they had any with pictures of football players or cars on them....like that would go in my living room....hello????  Anyway, I was operating under the assumption that my boys are DOGS so what would they care if this is a "girly" bed.....WRONG.  They care.  They want nothing to do with this bed.  Murph tried it once (and you can imagine how ridiculous he looked on this little flowery bed) and that was it.  Guinness doesn't even want to look at it.  He'll lie down right next to it but refuses to lay on it.

So what's going on here?  Do they think people will call them "sissies" if they sleep on the bed?  Are they feeling a bit "ridiculed" because people have been making comments about their collars with the pink hearts on them?  Are they trying to assert their manhood?  WTD?

That is too funny! Darwin doesn't seem to be able to tell... or maybe he just has a taste for "pretty things" he he.

Well I just went and smelled it...nothing.  It also really is pretty soft and cozy...more so than it looks.  I have no idea but it really is so funny to watch them totally avoid it.  These two are "a trip".

All kidding aside, my dogs have never just immediately liked a new bed. It takes a while :)

I think that's it, Allyson.  They clearly don't have a clue that it's "girly"....just having fun at the thought of it.

It's pretty cute. Pick it up wipe it off and throw it on the couch ! :) Maybe if you put it next to the wall. I know Finnley likes to lean on something.

Funny and adorable photo.  Love the bed but maybe they have overdosed on pink?

This really too funny and they do look like they are saying "Return It". I once bought a beautiful Downeast slicker for Cassie. It had arm and legs and kept her really protected. She would not leave the front of the garage, crying "please don't let anyone see me".

The bed is beautiful, but I must admit they do not look too happy about it!  Give them time:)

They just think the bed is too pretty to mess up: )

The bed is very nice, great colors.  The boys will probably like it once it acquires familiar smells and it is good to give them some sense of interior design.

I don't think dogs know the difference, but if someone asks me I just tell them my boys are "its".  They all seem to understand that.  You may be a little girly, but they are just dogs.  BTW, your carpet is the same color as our walls.

LOL, That is funny! Quincy has two beds, both in manly colors and he doesn't sleep or even lay on either one. Maybe he's the reverse and I should throw a bit of pink on it and he might like it. Quincy's beds are old but unused and sit next to our bed which he has no problem sleeping on, so I'm sure it's not the smell. :>)
