Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello,

I use the Andis clipper to groom my Goldendoodle. Bruno has a curly, wooly coat. I use the 3/4 in blade comb but it gets caught and falls off. Would it be better to get a 3/4 in blade and if so what type; split tooth or regular?

I brushed and brushed after drying and there were almost no mats! I think because of the thickness the combs are not working so well.

Any help will be appreciated!

To get the straighest coat possible, you need to brush while drying. The comb attachment may still not work in a thick wool coat. The 3/4 ht is a good blade. I have not seen a skipped tooth one. The longest skip tooth blade is 3 3/4. It goes thru some pretty tough coats. You just have to me careful around loose skin as the gap between the teeth is large.

Are there any blades that leave the coat about 1 inch long?

Thanks

I groom doodles and I like the 3/4 inch blade MUCH better than the comb and I like the steel combs better than plastic, which are useless in my opinion...If you use the 3/4 inch blade in one direction only and do not go against the growth of the hair, it comes out about an inch long--it gets shorter when you go up against the hair growth, which you really shouldn't do anyway...

By the way, brushing is not combing--you need to get thru the coat with a steel comb before the blade will go thru smoothly.

Thanks, Ginny. I do comb as well but I am going to invest in the blade. The plastic combs are really not useful! Thanks for your help.
