Mariner just had a seizure. He had been outside with the other two guys. Mailman had given them a treats. Mariner lost his treat so Sharon called them in and gave Mariner a treat. He ate the treat and then went to go on the couch. All of the sudden he started to foam at the mouth and then started to seize. We comforted him - it lasted a couple of minutes. It seemed longer. We gave him an additional dose of the phenobarb.
After the seizure he was totally back to himself. No confusion and totally oreinted. Right now he is eating.
We used to have a giant schnauzer mix that had seizures. They can be very scary, but you were right in comforting him during the seizure. Our old Jack used to take at one time 7 phenobarbital pills a day. As he got older we were able to cut him back 3 pills. We found that we had to adjust the dosage and the times he took his pills. The funny thing is that after he died (cancer) we found that he had been hiding his pills under the bed in our guest room.
How come that part doesn't surprise me - it is like when the kids are grown and during a conversation, you finally hear about the parties they had when they were in High School and you never know about it.
