Who out there with their doodles has a smooth faced doodle? Wolfie is 19 months old now and is a F2 doodle with a smooth face but has a very curly coat! His father was a standard poodle and the mother was a doodle!! he weighs 76lbs! he was a very easy dog to house break.  He has a problem with digging holes in the back yard but we love him. Even though our back yard is starting to look like a mine field!!  He is great with our grandkids and for the last month we have been leaving him out of his kennel and he is doing a great job!  Such a loyal friendly dog! He sits by my husbands chair with him as he is recovers from foot surgery!

Hi Jean!  Our Libby does not have a smooth face, but can I certainly relate to the digging in the backyard.  Libby is almost two and our backyard has been hit hard since she joined our family.  She is the best dog we have ever had and our love for her cannot even be put into words, but "her" digging was a big surprise to us.  The way my DH and I see it, a yard can always be replaced, but Libby NEVER!  So we are waiting for the "moment" (are we kidding ourselves) when she stops digging and then we can put in a new backyard.  Until then have fun Libby!

thank you for your comments! Libby is beautiful! Love her coloring!  We have snow again and Wolfie is enjoying romping around the yard in the snow and not digging!!

Wolfie sounds like a very sweet dog. If his mother was a doodle and his father was a purebred poodle, he is an F1B and not an F2; an F2 is a cross between two F1 doodles, and usually does produce a lot of smooth faced dogs. A smooth face is unusual in an F1B, but that's the interesting thing about mixed breed dogs, you get so many different kinds of gene combinations and looks. My guy is an F1 who has a straighter coat and sheds like crazy, but he does have the full beard and the rest of the facial hair which is called "furnishings". There are separate genes for the facial furnishings, long hair, and curly hair, and while many doodles get all three genes from the poodles in their genetic makeup , many others do not.

We have a group here calledWhere's the Poodle in my Doodle? where you will see many other dogs without the traditional facial furnishings.

One of my dear friends just got a smooth faced doodle and he is actually my Murphy's nephew.  He is a multi generation Labradoodle and is what they call a "throw-back".  There is actually a gene that produces the throwback coat or the smooth faced doodle.  He is 11 weeks old now and is cute as a button and very, very smart.  I can't wait to see what he looks like when he is grown. here he is, his name is Cooper.

Love the pic!

Oh so cute!

Wow, he is beautiful, Ronna. I love his color. His ears are high set also. Wouldn't it be cool if he didn't shed either?

Can you die from being so In love with a puppy picture ??.that is so precious!!!

OMD!  What a darling pup!

He's adorable :)  He looks a lot like Luna did at that age.  Maybe he will look like a giant, chocolatey version of Luna!

Adorable! love the color!

Thanks for you information! I guess I was confused as to what Wolfie was I thought our breeder told us he was a F2.  Wolfie also is shedding quite a bit!
