Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I'm not sure if I should be putting this in a specific group? I read a lot of discussions on here, but don't say a lot.
My Pete has started to drool terribly when he is around other dogs, any dogs, big or small, puppies or adults, boys and girls, its really bad. The drool pours out of his mouth, when I take him to my folks to visit, they have a labradoodle that Pete loves to play with, or when a dog comes here to visit. Pete walks around with drool running out of his mouth like a faucet. Is there anything I can do?

he is about 18 months old
This exact thing happened to Rex, my son's standard poodle. I once took him to a dog park after a vaccination of some sort. I was afraid he was having some sort of reaction to the shot when he started drooling so excessively. I came to learn it was a pattern with him at dog parks. Rex didn't act frightened but I don't remember all the details.
I am so happy someone posted this because Libby drools only in the car. She never drools in the house, outside, eating, walking, playing with kids or other dogs, just when we get in the car. She drools a lot and I had no clue why. I guess she is nervous or has anxiety in the car and doesn't fell safe or secure????
Lonnie, do you crate her in the car. Have her wear a seat belt?
A hint may be to have her only on the floor. No overwhelming window views. Too much for some of them. Hope that helps. It may.. but don't hold me to this
No we don't crate her, no room (grandchildren car seats), but we do have a seat belt for her, but it lets her move around a lot. I will try keeping her only on the floor and see what happens. Thanks Joanne!
Car rides are the most common situations for excessive drooling. Definitely a sign of anxiety.
Wow, now I feel bad, did not know this.
Sweetie would dehydrate on a 20 minute ride. I could ring out the carpet. Awful.
Later, she ate the entire leather seats off her adoptive moms new BMW SUV. Destroyed. UGH!!!
She is now and forever crated on her rides.
Oh my . . . . . Maybe the car seats need to go in our car and the crate comes in:)
Sometimes, just being strapped with a harness and facing forward helps.
I used to put Starlit in the front with irresistible dog treats on the dashboard right in front of her. She eventually loved her rides.
Lonnie, start real slow. One mile at a time. Try the floor or try facing forward only in the front seat with cookies on the dash. The backseat makes it worse. Make sure she faces forward and every ride is a reward. My neighbors used to go to McDonalds with their fosters. One mile away. I don't recommend McDonalds but hey, it worked.
I would try the front, forward facing only. Slow. If all else fails, go to the floor.
Thanks Joanne, we are working on this situaltion all this week with little trips. I always had her in the back so maybe that was part of the problem. Her first trip was just around the neighborhood and she was still restless and drooled, but seemed a little happier.
