Don't worry, I am not going to mention any names. Lol. I felt this was a nice side note to the discussion about why we don't mention breeders names. But stories like this are nice to hear IMHO.

We are getting ready to revise our Wills this month. And I felt it important to discuss plans for Murphy and Bella with our children, in the event something should happen to both of us at the same time. We are Harley riders so who knows?
Anyway, they both have 2 dogs of their own and we let them know that we wouldn't expect them to take two more on or even one in each home if they didn't feel up to it and to not feel obligated. So we talked about what they should do. We named a friend or two who would take one or both, we discussed asking here on DK, as you all know my guys so well, and we contacted our breeder to ask her if need be, would she want them to be sent back to her to decide on a home for them.

Our breeder, as many of you know, is the cats meow in my opinion, but I was truely amazed at her answer. She stated that she would certainly fly down from Michigan to Az. To get them herself if need be.
What a sense of relief it is to know that our children would have such a great option available to them especially at a time when they would be overwhelmed with everything else we'd be leaving for them to deal with.
It feels good and I wanted to share. So, do you think you could count on YOUR breeder to do this?

WOW,what a wonderful person. My kids and I have already had this discussion. They all have two dogs now,and we have three Doodles.THey are just like our kids so we all have to plan of "IF"....

I don't think my breeder would do this.  Informally my kids would take our dogs and we would take theirs. I know my kids would take our Springer no matter what, even though he is the one with the expensive medical issues.  I am not really sure about the doodles though. Thanks for posting and giving us another nudge to make plans.  We ride a bike also.  Now that we are retired we take lots of trips on our bike and accident outcomes are more dangerous.

We ride as well. Maybe there should be a riders group?

Good idea! We could share where we ride so when someone wants to take a trip they could get advice

I don't think Cubbie's breeder would do this and I wouldn't even ask her because I don't think I'd want him going back there.  I should probably start thinking about who would take the dogs if something were to happen to me.

Sue, you really have me thinking right now.  So glad you posted this and brought up something truthfully I have not thought about.  We have our will/estate all set up, but that was before Libby joined our family.  We have five children and it seems like I would have a choice, but one of them have 3 dogs and the other has four.  Of the other three, only one could actually take on Libby, but she has health issues and not sure she would be able to handle the responsiblities of Libby.  She would want too, but in reality maybe not.  We were very happy with our breeder, but not sure she would do this.  I will inquire though and see what her take is on this subject.  I do appreciate you posting this and bringing up a very sensitive and important situation.  Thanks Sue!

We have done some preliminary planning as well that includes setting aside some money from the estate.  The other thing that I did was on the list with all the bills that need paid and how they are paid I put a huge asterisks beside the Pet Plan bill that said "UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DO YOU WANT TO LET THIS LAPSE".

Great idea! I will make that request also in the Trust. Thank you.

Pet Plan takes the money out of my checking account so it never can lapse. Do you have that set up?

I can answer "yes" as I talked to her about this when we were traveling during the holidays.  I left instructions with our wills and also a document transferring ownership of The Boys back to her in the case of our demise.  It kept me awake that something would happen to us and they might be unhappy.  Our son would try but he's 21 and still in college.  I slept much better and there are not enough words to express my "thanks" to her.  She's a wonderful person in our book.

JD's breeder was a puppy mill, so no, lol.

But I agree that your breeder is extremely awesome, Sue. :)

JD stays with my DD, and his investment account goes with him, lol.

JD has an account?
