What time does everyone stop food/water??

Scarlet is just a pup and not even home for a week yet. The past few nights she has been getting up every 1 1/2 hrs or so and usually goes pee and poo both. Yesterday I stopped all food and water around 6 pm and she still went pee almost every hour or so during the night??? I usually try to go to bed around 11 ?? Please advise what has worked for you and your pup. I'm really tired :)  She has been eating about 6 am, noon, and 6 pm. She has a small bowl of water with each meal and I don't give her anymore after she finishes that. Would love some help!!

Our guys are no longer puppies so I can leave the water out all the time.  When they were pups I picked up the water at around 7:00 PM and they were crated and went to sleep around 11:00.  I would definitely encourage you to get her in a crate.  YOU can sleep on the couch right next to her if you want but I think housebreaking will be so much easier if she's in the crate.  As long as she can see you she should be just fine...you just need to "tough it out" for a couple of nights.

Thanks Jane - I am going to give it another try tonight actually. I worry so much about her waking up the house but I know that she will be better in the long run in her crate.

Here's the thing....if she cries and then you take her out of the crate she will learn that crying is the "ticket" out of the crate and onto the couch snuggled up with Mom.  That's not something you want her to learn...LOL.  If you decide at some point you need to take her out of the crate wait until she's quiet...even if it's just for a minute.

Amen to this! Behavior that is expected in the crate is something that needs to be learned right away. It does usually mean a few sleepless nights as you have to be very consistent with not taking her out when she cries. But if I read one of your other comments correctly and she is just over 7 weeks and you've had her for a week- that means she was 6 weeks when you got her which is awfully young so that may contribute to some struggles.

We just got her on Saturday and she was 7 weeks. 

she will be 8 weeks this Saturday. I know she is young so I am trying to make it

Zoe used to be like that when she was a baby.  My husband would fall asleep next to her crate and then tip toe to bed when she fell asleep.  Sometimes he would let her sleep next to him on the floor infront of the crate and put her in her inside when she fell asleep.  Then she woke up extra early and thats when I would wake up and take her outside and then settle on the couch for some more sleep.   Eventually she learned bed time meant crate and she loved her crate after that.

Hi Tara, I have the same issues with Finley and they are the same age.  We brought Finley home Sunday and he gets up ever 1 hour crying but I make him wait about 2 hours before I take him out.  I actually bought the Snuggle Puppy and covered his crate with a blanket in the back and on the sides and he did better.  He usually gets up 4x's a night but last night he only got up 3x's.  I stop his water at 7pm too.  Finley is a cuddle puppy and loves to be next to something soft and warm which is why I bought the Snuggle Puppy.  He loved it.  Might be worth it to help Scarlet sleep in her crate.  He cries for about a minute and then lies down.

So maybe with an energy party like Star suggested, a Snuggle Puppy and covered crate it might help you to get more sleep.  Someone had also mentioned a white noise machine.

Ok, now this makes a little more sense, she was just a little over 6 weeks when you brought her home, is that right by what I'm reading? And she's not in a crate. Wow, you must be tired. Sorry, can't help you with either as mine were older and crated at night in the very beginning. Crating can make all the difference as she won't pee where she sleeps. And she might sleep better in a crate. Use a ticking clock nearby as she is probably still missing her siblings and it will make her think of heartbeats. There are many suggestions in the puppy group too, warm water bottles, one of your worn t shirts for scent, can't think of them all now.
Yes, snow is very much adding to the problem. Lol.
I have PetPlan, bronze plan as it is cheapest for two. I have had claims and they have paid very quickly and just what they said they would in the policy. Many of us have Petplan. There is a 5% discount for mentioning DK and 10% for doing online, and a few other discounts but 15% is the max discount any one person gets.

Also Janes advise is spot on in what you teach her about whining and coming out of the crate. Have everyone close their doors and wear ear plugs to sleep, she can't have that loud a bark just yet anyway. You will have to tough it out. If she sees or hears you nearby she might just settle back down much easier in a crate than being free on a couch. I would just say "hush" or tap the crate once to stop the whining and both mine stopped right away. And if you do feel you have to take her out when she is quiet, it's not party time, it's out....go potty....back to crate. And no snow eating!

thanks Sue....yes, no snow eating!! She was 7 weeks when we brought her home and is now almost 8 weeks. Still very young. I will try to put a shirt in there tonight.....thanks :)

Maybe others will comment here as I question pulling water from a puppy who has diarrhea / loose & bloody stool.  Remember, hydrate -hydrate -hydrate especially with infants and the elderly otherwise you have a very dangerous situation.

I would certainly wait until the vet sees this pup and diagnosis the cause of the stool problems before I would lift water.

( I thought I saw that you are having poo issues earlier in another discussion. Correct?)
