Toby is having about one pee-pee accident a week now. We don't spend time in the rec room (downstairs) yet - he can't get to the door to tell us he has to pee down there. So I was wondering - how long until he is reliably trained? He is just over 4 months old - was 4 months on the 10th. He is getting SO much better in so many ways.....I just don't want to clean up pee anymore. :)
Tanner was close to five months old too, when he was completely trained.....He as had only one poo accident in the house, and that was his first night home when we got him....Tanner is going to be two years old next month, and as never had an accident in the house since he was trained..It was hard at first, trying to train him, picking him up and putting him outside to finish his pee, but in the long run, he as been great!! No accidents at all!!
It sounds like he's very close... one of my dogs was about 5 months old before I trusted him completely and could hold it for a couple of hours and tell me when he needed to go; the other came potty trained at 8 weeks and knew how to pee on a pad in the shower from day 1.
And this morning....for the first time....he dropped a load in the house!!! Not good. I did what the trainers say to do. Don't make a fuss, just clean it up. But man, stinky. He was in the rec room, which is downstairs, so I guess he didn't think to come up to the door. A lovely start to the day....
Murphy is just a smidge under 5 months old and he is in about the same place as yours. He has a pee accident about once a week or so, no poo accidents. The most annoying thing is when he pees inside, he walks while he does it (not outside, pees normally) so it makes a nice curly Q design on the carpet (uggh!) across the room. He barely tells us when he has to go, we just take them out on a schedule kind of, but once in a while he will stare at us and thats the cue, if we catch it. So like you, I'm hoping for the best here SOON! :) Good luck!
You know what - Toby does the same thing. It's like he knows he should get to the door, but doesn't quite move far enough/fast enough. It's an S pattern. Makes for a lot of clean up. If I keep him on the main level of the house he will go to the door, but if he's downstairs he doesn't quite know how to tell us he has to go. This was his only poo accident, and he's been following me around, laying on my feet or in my knee ever since. I think he's sorry. :)
Molly has just turned 4 months old and had one accident last week. She has only had three pee accidents and one poo. I tried the bell on the door but she decided to ring it constantly so we would go outside...even with a leash on. It didn't matter to her. I watch her when she leaves me and if she goes to the patio door area or windows...it means outside bathroom break. I just have to watch carefully because she will quietly sit close to the door and if I don't see her thats when the accident can happen. I have an oriental rug there that I do not want repeated accidents on. Sounds like Toby is almsot there.
Toby had a "poo" accident in the house, for the first time, two days ago. That was a little frustrating, but I tried not to let it show to him. We just calmly cleaned it up, and went on.....
