Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
So today, I took Jack over to the neighbors to play, I was there with him, I noticed he was sniffing around the back yard but I thought he was just checking out the yard.... My friend came out and said she put her old pork roast out there?? What the doodle? who does that but anyway, my dog my responsible.. My first picture in my head was from here.. I forget who's dog got pancreatitis from pork but I kicked it into gear..
... I had to get Jack home and induce vomiting.. 15 mls of Hydrogen Peroxide
Poor baby the first three or four throw ups were filled with disgusting pork chunks with large fat bits on them, then the last three or four were yellow bile, followed by clear bile so I know was able to get it all out of him.
This from a dog who never touches food from anywhere... He has been on a hunger strike for the past few days because he doesn't want to eat his dog food... he wants the new stuff and I didn't want to waste...
Thank God for syringes and hydrogen peroxide, could have saved his life and for sure saved me hundreds at the vet.. The ER vet said I did everything right and no need to bring him him since I was able to clear his stomach.. this was really old pork with fat bits on it..
.. Gross.... I am just watching him .. I can't give him Chicken Broth because he has a chicken intolerance. any ideas of what I can give him to settle his tummy????
Should I withhold food? I feel fine because I caught it right away and I know I cleared it.. If anything I was worried I made him vomit too much but he has stopped now.. I let him have a sip or two of water and he is holding it down.
Just not sure how I should handle the rest of the day..

What kind of an idiot puts a roast out in her yard? Even if there are never any dogs in her yard. Once everything calms down, could you please ask her why she would do that? I really would like to try to understand.
It sounds like you got everything out of his system before any harm could be done. I'd continue to make sure he stays hydrated. Maybe try giving him a very small amount of mashed sweet potatoes (add enough water to thin them a little) and then if he keeps that down by dinner time, you can try giving him his usual dinner, I think.
I agree, idiots. Meat attracts all kinds of varmints you just don't want. Anyway, I would just treat him normally. Offer him food, he'll eat when he wants too. If one of my dogs just happens to vomit we go about the day normally. If it seems that it was due to some aberrant thing soon after they've eaten, a coughing bit or something, I may offer the dog more food in case they are hungry. The dogs usually are ready to eat soon after vomiting if they have thrown up randomly, which happens every few months. The sometimes try to eat what they've brought up if I'm not quick enough--ugh.
Good.
Good idea!
Re-eat. Oh, my. So sorry this happened. And so glad the idiot mentioned she'd put the roast out there, so you knew what was going on.
Thank Goodness for Hydrogen Peroxide! We have used it a few times for LIbby too! So happy you caught on to what was happening and got him home. Can't figure that neighbor at all! A pork roast outside??? Glad Jack is doing ok now:)
I wonder if she was thinking it was for the squirrels... If you want to know what I really think.. I think because they don't pay for garbage service they didn't want a rotten pork roast hanging out in there garage until they went to the dump so they decided to put in the way back of their yard...
THey do use my garbage can sometimes but it is full at the moment......
Oh please let the house sell fast...
Yes please! SELL
They rented it out .. I just found out. YAY!! I know the people moving in, they are renters from a different house. They have a big dog but they are nice people and hopefully responsible .
