Trav is an urban dog, so doesn't encounter many dead things that might trigger his 'roll in it' instinct.  The few dead birds, rodents or fish we've found haven't appealed to him.  He'll sniff the corpse, then seem to shrug and move on.

Tonight he found something that triggered the instinct.  I gave him a Cod Liver Oil softgel, and after picking it up, dropping it, nosing it around for a while, he started to lie down and roll on it!  Yikes!  This is human grade stuff!  LOL

What has your doodle found worthy of rolling on or in?

Oh Pat. Parenting really isn't for sissies, is it? The good part is we can eventually laugh about it.

So true, Bonnie!  Shortly after the Opossum incident, this daughter wanted a Stephen King book, and I suggested she ask the librarian for "Pet Seminary."  Ooooops!  Several librarians got a big laugh about that.  I thought it was funny too, though I didn't make the mistake on purpose.  A pet seminary is just a funny idea!  Besides, Mr. King said Pet Sematary, which is already a silly thing to say.  :).

Wow!

Raccoon?  Possum?   Skunk?   North Carolina Bob Cat?

I am convinced by the teeth that it is a possum!  It was so decomposed, except for the teeth and that patch of fur, that it was hard to know at first.  But I think F. was right....the teeth gave it away.

Unfortunately I may be able to top these.  Lola on more than one occasion has rolled in human poop.  I live in NYC near Central Park and Riverside Park.  There are NOT many public bathrooms available in the parks and sometimes either kids partying in the park late at night or perhaps homeless people use the parks as their public toilet.  Lola doesn't touch dog poop - only human.  Only happened about twice and not for awhile but Yuck to say the least. Not that easy to get out either!

Meridith, that really is yuck!  Must have been horrible trying to get that stuff out of her fur.  Ick!!!!

Meridith, this one grosses me out more than the country slime my guys find.  Poo is poo regardless of the body it comes from BUT there is something about rolling in human waste.... GACK!!!!!!!!!!

DOUBLE GACK!!!  I agree Cathy, that is so very gross on so very many levels.

Deb, I was complaining about a cod liver oil softgel!  Boy did I get an education!  lol

Recap:   Things our doods have rolled in or on:

cod liver oil softgel

broiled salmon

poop:  rabbit, goose, cat, deer, turkey, cow, horse, human, chicken, possum, bird

dead:  fish, seagull, skunk, bunny, possum, squirrel, seal, whale

liver treat

Clark's slipper

unidentified/unidentifiable yucky stuff

garbage

rotten grass/mower clippings

slimy swamp mud

axel grease

Skunk:  special category, even after remains have become invisible to the human eye

black, gloopy stuff

rotting whale blubber

failing septic system

You forgot "nothing"  My doodle isn't a roller, thank goodness!!!  Some of the things you guys listed were so gross, and as a mom, that says a lot.
