Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi All,

I'll be bringing our pup home in 2 weeks.  But in looking outside at the snow we got last night, and seeing friends' pictures of their snowy dogs, I figured I'll go ahead and ask now - What is the best thing to do for a goldendoodle, when he's all matted with snow after a good romp?  Is a bath the best way to melt the snow?  I'm kind of dreading snow days for next year!

Thanks,

Judith

We dip Sophie's feet in warm water then dry her off. We just started using mane and taile spray on detangler to get mats out after she is all wet from snow or playing in the mud puddles.

If you wash a snowy dog, they will get cold. When they just get wet, the wettness does not take away the oils that make them feel dry. I usually crate my dogs with a few towels and very quickly the snow is gone. I bring them out and finish  them off with a fresh towel. Occasionally I have put them in the tub and hosed off their legs, but they seem to get cold with that. If I decide I have to melt the snow off, I put them in the tub with  hot water almost to the elbows and let them stand in there until the snow is melted. That seems to warm them up.

invest in a really good snowsuit.  One with legs.
