He was 8 mos yesterday! We managed to keep him relatively matte free until a few weeks ago I guess. His puppy coat shedding was giving us a real mess! Though I hated to do it.. I took him to the groomer and asked that she do her best! =)))

Here is before and after!

Doc looks nice and cool and ready for Summer... you'll be glad you had him cut short. Oscar (7 mos. on the 13th) gets a shorter 'do on Friday... we're going to try and stay ahead of the coat change.

BTW, how much does Doc weigh now? I just stopped at the vet's office on our daily walk and Oscar is just over 45lbs. He's been on a diet for the past couple weeks, as he was a bit heavy for his size. He weighed 45lbs. 2 weeks ago, so even though he's still growing he isn't gaining much.

That is a great idea Debb! I wish I had thought to get his cut a month ago.. we could of saved a little length! But, I guess he will probably enjoy being cool this summer more than he would have enjoyed hanging on to his hair!

I think they do enjoy being shorter (and cooler) in the Summer months. This will be Oscar's 2nd full body cut, actually. His hair grows so fast! He's much curlier now too, than he was before that 1st cut. I'm kind of looking forward to seeing him cut more like a doodle (his last groom he was cut the same length all over). BTW, Doc is one TALL dood (love the long legs)!

Doc looks like my Savannah.  They have to be about the same age.  Sav born on July 29th.  I was wondering what she is going to look like shaved.  I think Doc's legs might be a bit longer than Savannah's.  Might be surprised when I see her not so furry!!

Debb, I have no idea his current weight. He was 52lbs at 5 months. I am guessing by his growth that he is at least 65lbs give or take. Minus his hair.. it may be "take"! LOL! Sabrina, Savannah is a couple days older.. Doc's bday is Aug 1st! He has LEGS for days!!!!!!

Doc looks great! I may be doing the same thing this summer with my Chopper when he loses his puppy coat.

I like the short cut. You may be surprised how fast her coat will grow! Keep combing or brushing, Barb says that you still need to comb out her puppy coat! I keep Loo's coat fairly short, especially in the summer, and I was amazed at the amount of hair I combed out when she lost her puppy coat! Good luck!

:(

I am waiting on a chocolate.  After reading all these posts about puppy to adult hair transition.......I am sure dreading it.  Is there any precautions to take to avoid having to shave?

Lots of combing and brushing!

Ditto to what Linda said. Before taking either of my doodles to the groomer I spend as much time as needed to make sure I can comb through the entire coat tangle-free. That's the only way I can ensure having no shaving 'surprises'.

I was just looking at your photos on your page.  I have to say, not only do you have a gorgeous doodle, but your daughters are beautiful!  You are a lucky lady.
