We brought Sidiqi to the vet today for his first annual wellness exam. He's coming up on 15 months old, so all his checkups prior to now were puppy checks. He had the following:

-Imrab 3 Rabies Vaccine 3 yr
-Canine DHPP 1 yr
-Canine Bordetella Intranasal

The appointment was at 9 a.m., and Sidiqi was fine all day, his usual playful self. This evening, he started behaving as though he wasn't feeling well, and now we can definitely tell that he is SICK. He's all curled up with a blanket over him, and he keeps looking at us as if to say, "Why won't you make me feel better?!" It's breaking my heart, but I wasn't really worried until he whimpered when I picked him up.

(On a side note, let me just tell you what a lovebug he is... While the vet was sticking him with the injection needle, he was wagging his tail. He just loved being held that close to them.)

I'm going to do a search, but I figured someone here might know the answer immediately. Do I need to worry about him tonight, or can we just see how e's feeling in the morning?

Do some research!!! It could be a reaction to the vaccinations.
Halas just had the rabies and DHPP shots last Monday. His bordetella isn't due until February. The vet said he would probably be tired, and he may be a little tender at the injection sites, which for Halas were right hip and right shoulder. Is it possible you maybe pressed on the injection site when you picked him up? I would think it feels kind of like a bruise, so even a little bit of pressure on it might hurt a little. That could maybe cause the whimpering. Halas was really tired the rest of that day and night, and into Tuesday, but he didn't get sick. It's probably normal, but you can give the vet a call tomorrow if he still seems like he feels bad.
I think they really know how to play it up once they realize we feel bad for them, too, so that makes it even worse. Maybe Sidiqi will wake up tomorrow and forget that he doesn't feel very good. Halas manipulates me with a sad face whenever I tell him I have to leave. That, combined with floppy puppy (rolling onto his back into a submissive pose), makes me feel even worse. And he knows it.
I had a kitten once who had it turned out was allergic to his flu jab. I always lean on the side of caution now. I would bug my vet...!
Ollie had a big reaction after his third puppy immunisation - he had his needle around a similar time and after coming home from picking kids up at school his head was all swollen up!!!! His eyes, gums, lips everything. He also had his yearly heartworm injection on the same day so we're not sure which one caused the problem.
I took him straight back to vets who came him an injection to reduce the swelling and he was fine by the morning......
Hi
My vet has created some pretty strong feelings for me about vaccines. Many puppies can have a mild reaction to vaccines so my vet will only give vaccines for one disease at a time. Not to scare you, but reactions can be severe. I use homeopathic and natural remedies to help unwell dogs/puppies feel better. If you want info on what my vet prescribed you can email me at info@gemstonelabradoodles.ca
My vet does titer testing instead of re-vaccinating. Titer testing tells you what the immune levels are in the bloodstream.
Hope you puppy is feeling better.
Glad to hear he is back to normal.
Now that I know your dog is feeling better I can tell you something that happened here. I didn't want to alarm you unnessessarily. I had a 3 month old pup die from a reaction to a parvo only vaccine. I had talked my nearby vet into doing a single disease vaccine. She gave them 1cc. When the pup died the nearby vet told me he died of parvo, not the vaccine and recommended I do a cocktail on all the other puppies here in 2 weeks time.
I wanted a second opinion, so I went to my far away vet. She told me the pup died from a vaccine reaction and should have had .5cc and if I revaccinated the rest of the puppies, they would all get very sick and many might die. I had 30 puppies of various ages here at the time. I was nearly hysterical. Who to believe? I finally went with the far away vet and she came here and titer tested 13 dogs and puppies. Each mom and some from each litter. I was amazed at the high immune levels, proving one vaccination is all that is required if it is done after 12 weeks.
I think if we could all start pressuring our vets for titer testing before vaccinating, it would be a better world for our animals.
I started titer testing last year with my 8 year old Bijon. I had read some pretty controversial stuff of giving vaccination cocktails and the vet asscn'n's are starting to even ask vets not to do this anymore. Anyway, the titer revealed that Cody had FULL IMMUNITY to the shots he was scheduled to get. I am so glad I didn't do it. Rabies is the only required by law. I will be titering from now on and only allowing one shot at a time.
Oh yes My husband just reminded me to tell you that our new Vet suggested Benedryl would have helped alot with the initial reaction at the time.
PLEASE don't over react to what I am going to tell you but I want to let you know that my Bouvier Des Flanders @ 4 yrs was given his shots: Rabies vaccine 2 yr as it was at that time 2003 and DHPP on same day many breeders advise against giving both on the sane day now. Any way he was not sick that night but 3 days later he became very ill!. Now our Vet tried to tell us that it was coincidental that he had just received his shots and they had nothing to do with his sudden illness and completely out of whack blood specificallyliver and pancreas enzymes and such Im no Lab tech so I can't get too descriptive here but after 4 days of only growing more and more ill my husband put him in the SUV I.V. and all and drove him to the University Of Guelph Ontario Vet College; even there they wouldn't admit that the two were related but treated him for 5 days saved his life Diagnosis... Auto immune disorder which is known nowadays to be directly linked to over vaccination and he was a 95 lb. dog also it Auto Immune Disorder often leads to Lymphatic Ca. He coincidently died 3yrs after those Vaccinations of Lymphatic Ca. There is ALOT of literature obn this nowadays there wasn't then that's probably why the person who commented before me said to do some research it's probably related!!!!!
I'm not trying to upset you I'm sincerely attempting to help you. After this happened to my "Boomer" it happened to a freind of mine from work's Bichon coincidently at the same VET Clinic. Neither of us coincident do not see him any longer. YES indeed there is such a thing as over vaccinating so if your pup is still unwell and/or your Vet is indifferent I stress get another opinion. I see further back in the comments someone else told you that the Rule of Thumb is to never get the two shots at the same time. I hope for the best and certainly am not telling you that what happened my dog is happening here with yours but more people should be aware and they are becoming so...but far too slowly. So if he doesn't seem up to par follow it up. You know just to be safe I might even follow it up in a while anyway just to be safe.
I sure hoped that I helped as I was hesitant to tell you my story for fear of upsetting you too much But better to err on the side of caution .
Sincerely
Paula
Avoid the cocktails, too. Tell them you want all shots one at a time. Have them titered and you'd be surprised how high the levels are when the vet says a two year shot, it's usually a three year one. If your dog is not boarded or kenneled and not around a lot of strange dogs, you don't need most of the shots being offered. That's why I suggested you do research.
