Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Our sweet Macy is 17 weeks old and has been diagnosed with a shunted liver! She is showing ALL the signs! It's so sad to watch her! She's had several seizures with the severe neurological symptoms (walking the walls with her head down and pressing her head into things and wobbly!)
Is there anyone on here that has a happy, healthy labradoodle with a shunted liver that is controlling the toxins with diet and meds?? We just can't afford to spend the $6000 on a surgery that is complicated with a low success rate! Help!?

Oh my goodness....  am so sorry to hear about her condition, Tammy.... :-(  don't know anything about the condition, so I have no advice.... Prayer for Macy.... :-(

I'm so sorry to hear this...you must be heartbroken.

I am so sorry to hear about this.  My first thought was to contact the breeder, and it sounds like you have.  I am sure this was probably in the contract, but I would still push for the breeder to give you your money.  I know a lot of breeders out there say that they will give you another puppy, but then what?  What happens to the pup?  I hate to say it, but do they just put them down?  Surely they can't sell them like that and if they won't give you your money back, then I would think they wouldn't bother paying for it all themselves.

I can't imagine being in your position.  I hope whatever you all decide, it works out for all of you.  Good luck.

Im very sorry to hear this.
I know nothing about a shunted liver.
But wanted to send my Doodle Hugs your way

Tammy, I'm sure you bonded with Macy the minute you held her so your pain is probably as great as Macy's.  I cannot imagine how hard it is for you and crying for 6 days but it is so obvious how much you love her.  I hope everyone's prayers and love inlcuding mine come through for the best solution for you and Macy.

I am so so sorry.....shame on your breeder for not giving you a cash refund..in my opinion that is totally unacceptable. I don't have any knowledge of what to do but I know how sick humans feel when their ammonia levels are high and I could burst into tears for all of you....

I'm sorry to write this; it's so sad. After continuous days of struggling for Macy, we talked in depth with her vet and decided to put her down, to end her suffering. This was not going to be a good life for a dog, let alone; a 17 week old puppy!!
Our hearts are so heavy and we are in so much pain. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we begin the grieving process. Our 4 1/2 yr old daughter understands that she went to heaven to get special puppy wings and we'll all see her again!
Thanks everyone for all the support! And understand; we would have done surgery, but the success rate with this type of surgery was not encouraging. Don't think we allowed money to make this decision. We talked to several veterinarians, and they all agreed, based on all her test results, this was the best and most humane thing to do for her.

We are hoping for another Labradoodle to come into our life again.

I am so very sorry.

Thanks for letting us know.  I definitely know where you are coming from because my "best dog ever" had liver disease and died at 7 years old.  That was after a couple of surgeries and many, many trips (some emergency) to the vet.  Take a look at the photos on my page and you can see him.  He was wonderful and we of course "replaced" him immediately with an ALD (more for my other doodle but also for me).  You will get through this as we all do, and believe it or not, this was a great experience for your daughter.  To put together feelings about the death of a pet is the precursor to understanding the death of a loved one (human).  My thoughts are with you.  Hugs and blessings.

I am very sorry to hear this Tammy

I'm sorry for your loss.

So very sad for all of you. My thoughts are with you.
