So it's been two nights(well second night being now haha) and one day since Tobi's been home and there are a few things I've learned about him already.

1) He doesn't like zuke's treats. he doesn't even attempt to eat it. but more surprising is he doesn't like peanut butter o.o so anyone got a suggestion on what treat I can use for training purposes??? haha

2) he just loves following me everywhere haha. it does make me worry though for when I have to go back to work since he won't follow anyone else for very long :/

3) when y'all said that these guys can stop on a dime when the need to go you weren't joking haha. maybe it'd get easier to potty train once the weather is warmer than 11degrees(below zero with wind chill o.o) but we'll see :)

So glad you're enjoying your new puppy. My roger doesn't like any peanut butter or any treats either that I can tell. I have donated bags and bags of treats to the humane society here since he isn't interested. I do use his kibble as a treat for training and it works great. Not sure why he doesn't like any treats but he doesn't seem to care that I'm giving him his kibble as a treat... Maybe bc it's coming from my hand so that's enough incentive for him. Hope that helps ;)
haha yea I started with that for a bit and it was working pretty good... just in my head I know it's just his food and not a treat so I kinda feel like I'm cheating him if that makes sense haha :p maybe I'm just over thinking it lol... it's probably a good thing since it's just one less thing I gotta remember to buy :)
He won't realize that he is only getting kibble and not treats (most of the dog treats all smell the same anyway lol). Once you start a training class you'll probably want to find some soft training treats because they can eat them quicker.

Caleb, it's best to just use his kibble for training treats for now. You really don;t want to introduce a lot of new foods this soon. We recommend that you not make any dietary changes for two weeks after a puppy comes home. All the stress and excitement of this huge change in his life can cause digestive upsets, which will also adversely affect housebreaking. Lots of doodle puppies also come home with coccidia and giardia, and the incubation period is 10-14 days, so it won;t show up in a fecal test right away. If you change his diet and introduce all kinds of new foods, and he gets diarrhea, you won't know if it's from some new food or from parasites. Wait 2 weeks and then introduce new foods one at a time.

oh... well I guess it's a good thing he doesn't like the treats than :) guess I'll be holding off on those and see how my guy does with just his kibble :)

Congrats on the new puppy!

1. don't introduce new items into his diet just yet.  It is wise to wait 2 weeks after you bring your puppy home from the breeder before giving new food and treats.  If your puppy develops any digestive issues (some puppies come home with giardia) you will definitely know that it isn't a new food or treat that is upsetting his stomach.  Plus moving to a new home is hard on them too so no need to stress their system more by adding new things to the diet right away.  Peanut butter is high in fat so you don't want to give too much of it to a puppy anyway.

2.  As long as you have someone coming to let your little guy out a couple times a day when you are at work he'll do just fine.  Cubbie used to be my shadow when he was a puppy but did fine when I left for work and would gladly play with my brother when he came to give him his potty breaks.  Then as soon as I got home he would become my shadow again.

3. Luckily it is April so hopefully you won't have much more cold weather to deal with.

well someone's always at my house just a little worried if he'll get too attached to me and what not :) but we'll see how things go :D

and unfortunately for some reason Colorado thinks it's funny for the weather to be 80 and sunny one day and snowy and blistering cold the next especially in the spring... but hopefully Colorado cooperates with me this year :)

Saw that on the news tonight-- I thought our weather was bad, but your guys' is way crazier! Hope it all melts away soon.

And have fun w/ your new puppy :) Along w/ store bought treats, like Zuke's and Newman's, I also give my puppy fruits & veggies as treats, just cut up & raw or steamed & plain.

Funny to find out which ones he loves: apples, squash & jicama or just likes: breen beans & carrots, and absolutely does not like (I'm not saying hate cause maybe he'll grow up to like them LOL): asparagus & broccoli.

Good Luck and Congratulations!!!

I just saw the story about the CO weather. That is just crazy. They said some places got 9 inches of snow when it had been in the 70's the day before.

Glad you've learned so much... there's so much more to learn. :o)

Enjoy it all!

He may develop a taste for treats later.

Yes, Ellie didn't care for treats when we first brought her home. She never liked peanut butter and still doesn't love it. She has grown to LOVE her treats!!
