Caleb, it's best to just use his kibble for training treats for now. You really don;t want to introduce a lot of new foods this soon. We recommend that you not make any dietary changes for two weeks after a puppy comes home. All the stress and excitement of this huge change in his life can cause digestive upsets, which will also adversely affect housebreaking. Lots of doodle puppies also come home with coccidia and giardia, and the incubation period is 10-14 days, so it won;t show up in a fecal test right away. If you change his diet and introduce all kinds of new foods, and he gets diarrhea, you won't know if it's from some new food or from parasites. Wait 2 weeks and then introduce new foods one at a time.
Congrats on the new puppy!
1. don't introduce new items into his diet just yet. It is wise to wait 2 weeks after you bring your puppy home from the breeder before giving new food and treats. If your puppy develops any digestive issues (some puppies come home with giardia) you will definitely know that it isn't a new food or treat that is upsetting his stomach. Plus moving to a new home is hard on them too so no need to stress their system more by adding new things to the diet right away. Peanut butter is high in fat so you don't want to give too much of it to a puppy anyway.
2. As long as you have someone coming to let your little guy out a couple times a day when you are at work he'll do just fine. Cubbie used to be my shadow when he was a puppy but did fine when I left for work and would gladly play with my brother when he came to give him his potty breaks. Then as soon as I got home he would become my shadow again.
3. Luckily it is April so hopefully you won't have much more cold weather to deal with.
Saw that on the news tonight-- I thought our weather was bad, but your guys' is way crazier! Hope it all melts away soon.
And have fun w/ your new puppy :) Along w/ store bought treats, like Zuke's and Newman's, I also give my puppy fruits & veggies as treats, just cut up & raw or steamed & plain.
Funny to find out which ones he loves: apples, squash & jicama or just likes: breen beans & carrots, and absolutely does not like (I'm not saying hate cause maybe he'll grow up to like them LOL): asparagus & broccoli.
Good Luck and Congratulations!!!
Glad you've learned so much... there's so much more to learn. :o)
Enjoy it all!
