Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi all,
I have a bit of a concern regarding Cooper's weight. Cooper is a Mini F1B Goldendoodle and when we picked him up at 8 1/2 weeks, the vet records said he weighed 6 lbs at 7 1/2 weeks. I thought that sounded reasonable.
Here is his recorded weights:
7.5 weeks old: 6 lbs (Breeder's vet)
9.5 weeks old: 6 lbs 7 ounces (our first vet visit)
11.5 weeks old: 7 lbs 1 ounce (our second vet visit)
(EDIT: 14 weeks old: 9lbs)
(EDIT: 15 weeks old: 9.9lbs)
Does this seem right?
We're feeding him 1 1/4 cups of Grandma Lucy's Artisan Pork dog food. 472 Cal/cup.
Here is the information page for the food.

He seemed to think Cooper should have gained more in that amount of time. He thought maybe there was a mistake when he was weighed at 9.5 weeks...
Sure doesn't sound like much of a weight gain for four weeks!
Well, I don't think he is skinny. He seems rather well proportioned to me. He eats his food like a maniac, no issues there. Also poops well. I have been wondering if we should be feeding him even more then we have been...
Actually no, twice daily with generous treats throughout the day.
Thanks, will try that.
Zoe is a mini multi generation Labradoodle. When we first got her I remember her average weight gain was one lb every 2 weeks. She's full grown now at 25 lbs (maybe more because shes gained some weight lately).
Seems right to me! Mine is a mini goldendoodle and she was 5.4 lbs at 8 weeks and 7.2 lbs at 10 weeks.
Tara is a mini ALD and she weighed 4.8 lbs when we got her at 8 weeks.
9 weeks-5.4lbs
10 weeks-6.4lbs
11 weeks-6.9lbs
12 weeks 7.2lbs
So, she gained a little faster than Cooper. I agree to check him for boniness by feeling because sometimes it's hard to tell what is going on under all that hair! Some weeks later Tara was gaining 1.5 to 2 pounds a week and I thought we were going to end up with a whopper but it slowed down and she ended up being around 20 pounds as an adult. Just saying the weight gain can be sporadic.
My doodle wasnt gaining weight either as a puppy. The vet and several family members recommended a little bit of goats milk mixed in with her kibbles. She plumped right up and loved it! Every once in a while I give it to her as a treat, she slurps it right up.
