So it started a few weeks ago...

I came home from work one day and immediately take Molly out to potty. She peed right away in the back yard, but seemed super eager to get back inside. It was like she was all of a sudden afraid of the backyard! I knew she had to poo, but she refused to stay in the yard. So we go inside... Sure enough, two minutes later, she is pooing... ON MY COUCH! It was as if she was looking at me saying " mom, I know it's bad to poop on the floor; the couch is a fine place, right???" Ahhhh!

Soon I realized that it in fact was because the grass was WET! Fast forward to this morning ( no other notable incidents until now). We go out the back door like ever morning to potty. As soon as she realizes the grass is wet, she walked onto the concrete porch and peed there instead! Two separate bathroom breaks this morning, both done on the concrete. Anyone else have doodles who hate wet grass? Problem here is that the grass is wet every morning. :-P

At last! Another doodle with the same quirk as JD!

Jackdoodle has been this way since I got him. He will not step out onto the grass in the backyard if it's wet out there, even if the rain has stopped. Even if it stopped hours ago. I know when it's rained during the night without even looking outside, because JD will not go to the back door to go out in the morning. If I do manage to coax him outside, he will not step off the patio.  I have to put his leash on and take him out front on a mini-walk to get him to pee.

You may ask, what is the difference between the wet grass out on the parkway and the wet grass in the backyard? Unfortunately, I have no clue, and JD isn't talking.

I do have a run on the side of the house with pea gravel in it, and occasionally he will pee over there. If you have room for something like that, you might try it. Otherwise, you may have to do what I do...put him on a leash and take him down the block for a morning pee.

So funny, Karen! Molly seems to hate the wet grass out front much less than she hates the backyard grass. She hasn't given me any real answers as to why either ;-) I live in a townhouse.. so no gravel option for me.  If it continues to be a morning problem, I may have to walk her out front... at 5:30 am.

A bathrobe hanging out from under a raincoat is my newest fashion statement, lol!

Karen - we have the same fashion style!  LOL

And, mine is also Adidas slip on sandals - I need a quick shoe to slide into and something that won't get ruined walking around in all this rainy mucky grass.   Good thing I'm not a celebrity or I'd be on the cover of The Enquirer with a caption 'Look at this celebrity sans make up - in bathrobe/sandals and winter coat!'

Karen! You took the words out of my mouth! Boomer is exactly like this. He won't even come downstairs if it rained during the night. But, like JD, he will walk on the grass throughout our neighborhood. We have affectionately started call his poo...patio poop because that's where he goes on rainy days! Unfortunately we are in Seattle so this happens more òften than not. LOL

What a dainty girl!  My boy loves wet paws so he can come back in after the DH takes him out and jump in bed with me with his wet paws from the grass and soaking wet beard from his morning drink!  I hope your girl gets used to the wet grass!

Oh yeah, she still has no problem getting her wet paws on everything but the floor.  In addition, I feel like Molly intentionally rubs her wet beard and food face on the couch right after eating. She rolls all over the place, rubbing her slobbery face all over the cushions.  All I can say is... My. Poor. Couch!

Yes, Zoe hates the wet grass especially after rain (and during rain).  She tries to pee on the little golf mat my DH has on the deck LOL!

Usually when it rains I take her out on a leash.  Wet grass from the morning dew isn't THAT big of a problem for her because she will walk along the edge next to the fence or right next to the deck to avoid the majority of the moisture.

It's really weird considering how much she likes puddles of water, streams, lakes, and the beach.

HA HA @ the golf mat!!!

Too funny!  The only suggestion I can think of is maybe throw a ball or favourite toy out on the grass so that she gets used to it (but that would only work if she likes fetching)!  If that doesn't work, hopefully as she grows taller and her belly doesn't touch the wet grass she'll  "outgrow"  this quirk!!!

To be honest, her belly doesn't even touch now... thanks to her super long poodle legs. LOL

Ha!  So funny about the dogs that don't like wet grass!  My daughter's big mastiff type dog just hates rain.  He'll press up against the side of the house to pee or just stand in the doorway, look horrified and try to hold it til the sun comes out.  NOT a good thing for an Oregon dog.  :)

Trav doesn't mind rain, but when it's raining hard he has to go through a sheet of water coming from the patio roof in order to get to the grass.  He'll stand on the patio, staring at the flood and finally make a mad dash through it.  Cute.  :)
