Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I am a new goldendoodle puppy owner and am still navigating through everything! We got an F1B female goldendoodle (Harper). She's 4 months and about 22 lbs. The breeder told us she'd be about 60 lbs but we've heard everything from her being huge for 4 months, to tiny! No-one believes she's a doodle either. The Dad was a "Parti" poodle, and because of her spots everyone thinks she's a springer spaniel. She also has what the breeder called an "open face" and she only has long curly hair on her back. Her head is smooth and short and shows no signs of getting longer, and her sides a pretty short too. Anyone have any ideas what she might look like?
Also wondering what kind of puppy food others are feeding, we were doing Orijen but then heard it had too much protein for puppies, so we just switched to Wolf Cub. Seems like everyone has an opinion about everything lol!
Sorry if this is a bunch of discussions in one :)

My dog who is now 2 years old weighed 18 pounds at 4 months. She now weighs 42 pounds so it could be that Harper will be closer to 50 pounds. Our dog is also open faced and like Harper, curly only on her back and chest. My husband and I both love this look and really it was what we wanted in the first place. I love Harper's coloring. She's adorable and one of a kind!
Good to know about the size, thanks! We liked the open face too! Plus she was a discount puppy because the breeder said they try and breed the open face out which is what we liked about her haha. She was the last one left- her 10 siblings were very curly and long haired.
There is a bonus to having an "open-faced" doodle - no beard mess when they eat/drink! It also definitely cuts down on the grooming.
It looks to me like adorable Harper will have pretty curly ears - curlier than our Luna. Luna basically looks like a slightly scruffy, really tiny golden retriever (she's about 35 pounds).
We have a traditional looking doodle up the street that comes over for play dates with Murphy and I notice that when she drinks water her beard is wet and dripping water. I really prefer our smooth faced doods.
I hadn't thought about that! That WILL be nice. Love looking at all of these other smooth/open faced doodles, so cute, thanks guys :)
She is just DARLING. Love that parti coloring and the F1b is a great choice. So was her mother a goldendoodle? I have a F1b goldendoodle and his coat is super. He does not mat at all and requires very little grooming. Because of the poodle in him, he loves to be groomed and will stand for hours. We always do his grooming ourselves He is a big boy (take a look at my Smilebox of the doodle romp yesterday and he is the big black doodle) and weighs 85-90 pounds and is 30 inches tall. We have had our dogs on Solid Gold food for a long time and they started on the Wolf Cub. They now eat HundenFlocken which is one type of Solid Gold dog food. Enjoy your beautiful little girl and post lots of photos.
Here's a picture of the Mom! She's an English Goldendoodle. Thanks for the food info!
Harper is so cute - I love the coloring!!! They say that the formula for most doodles is to take their weight at 16 weeks of age and multiply that by 2 and that should be close to their adult weight give or take 5 pounds - so Harper should be between 39-49 pounds when fully grown. She looks like she has really long legs! As far as her food, join the Food Group. There is so much information there, it's incredible. Karen is the DK expert on food and she will help you if you have any questions that you can't find the answer to in the Food Group.
Her legs are super long, they seem to be growing exponentially while her body stays about the same size! I think she's going to be a tall one. I'll check out the food group, thanks!
Cute! And what an unusual pattern for a goldendoodle! I have a labradoodle who also has more of a spaniel pattern, but a lot of the white areas got gray as black hairs mixed in--see pic.He does not have an open face and has more hair on his body than is believable--it takes me several days to groom him!
I think she won't change too much, although she will probably get curlier as she gets older--a lot of doodles do. I like Wellness Just for Puppies as a food, but again, that is just my opinion!
Also, you double the wt. at 4 months so she might end up weighing 45 pounds = or - a few pounds.
I love Spots. Before Spud, I looked for a dog with spots. I would name him Spot :)
'See Spot Run...'
As for weight ( 16 weeks x 2) + 5lbs or (22 x 2)+ 5= 49lbs. So, no she probably won't be huge. My guess is 55lbs.
She is beautiful and will be just the right weight... whatever that weight may be. Enjoy
PS. I love the open face. Here is how I see this. Poodles, are shaved on the face to keep the fur off. To make them look like the desired opened face
Again, she is just beautiful
She's very cute.
Orijen does not have too much protein for a puppy. Their puppy food is made for puppies, lol. It's absolutely the best quality kibble you can buy. But Solid Gold is on our recommended brands list, too. Check the Food Group for info and lots more.
