This weekend we walked Trixie in an area with Dark Fine powdery dirt.  Not sand or mud.  Dirt that acted like it went into every fiber of her feet hair....all the way up to her hocks

I suds up her feet 3 full times & Really scrubed them...And all the dirt still did not come out!

Granted this was in a shower...I think if she would have been standing in a tub of water maybe by the end of the bath they might have been a little cleaner.

But we do showers with her.

Is anything going to clean up her fur?

Also, since I keep Trixies fur long...While I trim the fur between her pads & on the sides of the pads.  But no 'top' fur

Is there a way to trim her feet fur & not have her look funny?

Pictures anyone?

What shampoo were you using? Sounds like the dirt was greasy somehow. I don't subscribe to using other than dog shampoos on dogs, but Dawn dish soap does have some specific uses. Getting greasy dirt off might be one of them. You could try the lemon rinse on her feet too.

Try combing the shampoo thru the coat while bathing. If you have to, use a flea comb to get all the hairs separated. I comb faces when shampooing sometimes because of caked on whatever...stuff that I don't want to know what it is. lol

For trimming the feet, you could trim all the coat from between the toes, I also trim all the coat from around the nail beds.  These things do not show if you leave the top long to go overtop of the toes. You need to hold the coat on the top of the paw  back out of the way, so you don't accidentally trim that part too short.

I will see if the dirt wears off over time or with her next bath...Then consider a little dawn.
it isnt coming off on the furniture...it is that into her fur...Though I dont think it was greasy...it seems to have the texture of soot. Though this was through out the area on the streets we walked her on

It was a Dog shampoo I used- dont recall the name though

Pam, I use my straight scissors on the edges of Monty Mooses feet, as well as the bottom and between the toes, so he doesn't slip on the wood floors.  But the only thing that works on the top hair are thinning scissors.  That way there are no blunt cuts and it doesn't look funny.  As far as the dirt goes....I would put Trixie in the tub this once and really scrub...so it can really get in-between all the hairs better than a shower.  It might be the type of dirt that just needs to wear off.

I might try the tub.for her next bath. The basement shower is much easier to get in there with her & scrub her. Which is better on my back.
Thanks for the trimming tips. I will try that this week

soot is very greasy

just think of how hard it is to clean a fireplace door

I didnt know that.  I have never cleaned a fire place door.  I am still looking for the Elbow Grease my Mom told me to use when I was younger...I searched & searched for it under the counter but couldnt find it, I told her

LOL!

when you find it, can you tell me what it looks like?
