Any Idea's? Heartbroken Mom - Doodle SAD!

I took Mabel to the Vet Friday because during the week she was occasionally scratching which is unusual for her. She would scratch in this spot pictures above. I looked a few times and found that it wasn't red, there were no ticks or fleas, no stingers, NOTHING. A few hours later it was red, beefy and a little bloody from her claws I imagine. The vet said she may have been stung. She may have had a little cellulitis develop after getting her vaccines because this is typically the site in which they are administered. It could have been from the Frontline since it's close to the site where Frontline would be applied. The vet told me to give her Benedryl every 8 hours. He gave me an oral antibiotic which is to be given three times a day. That is a huge challenge because she already has a sensitive stomach. We don't feed her people food and the only way I can give her medicine is to hide it in people food. The vet also gave me a spray called GenOne Spray. When I spray it on the wound she flinches, trembles and quivers. I think it's very painful to her.I thought she wasn't going to bite me when I tried to clean it ( as recommended)  She is panting a lot which is not normal. They said to wait until Wednesday and if she wasn't better to call them back. I can't sleep and wish I could take her to the vet now. My husband is traveling for work and the closest animal hospital is an hour away. I have 4 little ones sleeping. I have NO idea why this is happening or what caused it. This happened out of the blue. It seems like the vet doesn't have any idea why either. The spot seems to be getting worse. (On Friday the spot was the size of a quarter). Tonight she didn't want to play.Does anyone have any ideas or know what this might be from experience? 7.6 hours till my vet opens.  :(

I am sorry about what happened to her and hope Mabel gets the care she needs from the vet soon! I bet it does hurt her poor thing...

"OWWIEEE" as my grandson would say. The area looks bigger in the last picture than I previously thought in the first one. Looks very angry and painful. Hope the vet can help with a topical to soothe it and figure out what's going on. Looks infected no matter the source. When was her last vaccinations?

She had vaccines in January. I am trying figure out  why this happened. Guess I need to do some research. They think maybe allergies. She never scratches so I'm not convinced but it's possible. They gave her a huge antibiotic injection and a bigger steroid injection and then some special shampoo to clean the area with. She is already much much much better and I posted a picture of the difference. You can't see the entire area but can see the red beefy-ness is gone. Yeah!!

I don't think so either but their opinion is: that this spot is just an inch away from where they administer the vaccines.  They thought maybe a sensitivity occured like when kids get an MMR and their arm gets red and then the area swells. The dog itches the general area, causes a tiny abrasion and then BOOM dermatitis or cellulitis. I don't know what to think.

We made it through the night. Mabel wouldn't play at all this morning. She was also hiding in her crate, which she never sleeps in! It made me sad. She also almost nipped me again when I just gently moved the hair away to see the area. I could hear her heart beating while sitting next to her!! That made me a little panicky. It was loud.

 I saw a different Vet today than the one I saw Friday. I showed him Friday pictures vs the pictures I took last night. He called it a hot spot  while the other vet said cellulitis from a dermatitis out break which I think is the same thing as a hot spot? Both Vets said they are very painful and dreadfully itchy. The Vet said  this tends to be more common in the spring when the leaves start coming back and things begin to bloom. It was possible it is food related but he suspected seasonal.  I asked about the immunizations that she had mid January and he said it was a possibility but he has seen a few dogs this week with the same thing.

He saw that she was hurting and in a lot of discomfort. He took immediate action! He told me to stop the antibiotic for 24 hours. Told me to NOT USE the GenOne Spray that is burning her skin. He admitted that the spray can burn but also numbs the area.  Mabel winced and shook when it was applied so I'm glad he said to stop giving it to her. He gave her a huge injection of an antibiotic and also gave her a large injection of a steroid that will help stop the itching and bring down the swelling. Then he offered me a shampoo to wash the area. I will wait a day before torturing her any more.  :)

I wish I knew how  to prevent this. The vet says it happens and there isn't any real prevention. Possibly Claritin or Zyrtec daily in the spring.  Any body have any experience with this? Right now, Mabel is at least wagging her tail. I'm glad we were able to go into the Vet today. I hope this helps her. Thank you for all the kind words.

Ohhh so glad you made it though the night and shes feeling a little better.  I hope the shots the vet gave her helps!  keep us posted :)

Glad that Mabel is getting some relief and is wagging again! That area looks so raw and miserable I hope it is gone soon.
