Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi Everyone,
After weeks and weeks of researching and dog sitting my wife and I have settled that we wanted goldendoodle as our first pet. I've been in contact with a GoldenDoodle breeder and she has this little girl. The mom is a purebred Golden Retriever and Dad is a purebred Toy Poodle. So a F1. The breeder says that "she has a very flat coat which is unusual" and is "easy to pick out" from the rest of the litter.
What do you guys think? Any pictures of your pups who look like this girl and adult pictures? Although I think a coat like a golden retriever is beautiful, my concern is shedding. I don't mind a nice wavy and fluffy coat, just not curly.
THANKS!

I went to your page and your Stanlee looks a lot like our late Thule did. He's not getting any furrier ;-)
Yea, I didn't think so but again, it's probably for the best living in Florida AND for my wallet as no regular grooming is required! Thanks Adina!
But he's darling the way he is. I always thought that both my Thule and Rosco have the perfect coat even though their coats were very different.
I think she is going to look like Luna. Unfortunately, I can't remember their membership name but she is a beautiful GD and has the softer flat coat and big ears. Help...anyone out there who can link them to Luna's home page?
Here is the link. :>) http://www.doodlekisses.com/profile/Luna?xg_source=profiles_memberList
She could easily get a lot wavier as she gets older, but the shedding could be an issue too--some doodles shed a lot as others have said and this coat would be risky in that regard--no guarantees of non or even low shedding--that is always true with a doodle, but the more they look like a lab or a retriever, the more likely they are to be a heavier shedder.
She is very cute though and if you don't mind some shedding, she will be a lovely dog.
To me she seems slightly furrier than the Luna others mentioned, but I forget what her puppy photos looked like. But if shedding is an issue, I would pass. The risk is too great with a coat like hers.
I agree completely on both counts.
I think she's fluffier than Luna - Luna had basically nothing scruffy on her face from a very young age.
Here is Luna at about 5 weeks (she's the one on the right):
I would agree though that I think this puppy will likely shed since she doesn't have a curly coat. If you're looking for a dog that doesn't have tight curls and doesn't shed... I'm afraid goldendoodle/labradoodle probably isn't the answer. What about a Wheaten terrier? Kept in a puppy cut they look distinctly doodly.
To be honest - we thought we cared about shedding (non-shedding dog for us was a bonus, not a requirement) but really we couldn't care less now :)
But so cute. I bet if you go see her, you won't care about shedding...just sayin!
I can see a little waves on her ears. I'm not an expert. All I know is that the straighter the hair, the more shedding there is. My older one is curly (not too curly, though) and there is no shedding. Auggie has straighter hair and sheds, but not as much as a golden would. It's hard to say. Here is Auggie's transformation so far:
