I never thought about these things before. I've used Frontline for 8.5 years on three different pets, and never thought about my GS being all over all of them all the time from the time he was 5 years old. No hand washing, etc. and no harm to any of us ever. But that doesn't mean it's okay, lol, especially with Charlotte being so young.
Not to take your tangent even further, but does this mean that Tacky is letting the baby pet him?
Sometimes :) I am always right there and I say "Taquito be nice, she's coming in for a pet" and if he is expecting it, he is totally fine. When she comes out of nowhere and pats him he does growl and run away. It's just a warning. Things are going well considering we are dealing with a chihuahua with a napoleonic complex lol.
ALL Chihuahuas have a Napoleon complex, lol!
Ugh... I pulled three ticks off Charlie today. If I found three there are probably more that I have not found. She is dark brown. I applied Advantix 2 three weeks ago. I am going to bite the bullet and be the guinea pig for the Seresto. I'm desperate. I'll give it a few weeks and report back.
We will await your report.
Hope it helps & can't wait to hear how it worked! - don't forget to download the $20 rebate.
We are so lucky not to have to deal with ticks in our area....so far. Let us know how it works, Moe.
Must have missed this convo last year. I just got a very expensive looking advertisement in the mail today from Seresto. So decided to research it. I looked up reviews. Apparently it is not recommended for families with young children and families where the pet sleeps in the human bed. Here is a little clip of what they were saying. I don't think I'd want this on my dog. It goes back to what Karen was saying about using the flea collar in the "olden" days!!!
Seresto is not to be used in a home with small children, and it's not to be used on dogs that sleep in a human's bed. Sorry, but if it's not safe for me to be near it, it's not safe for my dogs to be near it. Bayer's own caution statement:
Quote
“Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Keep the collar in the outer packaging until use. As with any veterinary medicinal product, do not allow small children to play with the collar, or to put it into their mouths. Pets wearing the collar should not be allowed to sleep in the same bed as their owners, especially children. People with known sensitivity to the ingredients of the collar should avoid contact with the collar. Immediately dispose of any remnants or cut-offs of the collar. Wash hands with cold water after fitting the collar.”
Product review: I bought the collar last year but only had it on the dog for about a week when the groomer cut it off. Story for another day. The weather was getting colder so I didn't use anything for the winter. When spring came the ticks were out in full force. I used Advantix for 1 month. The dog probably had 10 ticks. I bought the Seresto collar in April. I have not see a tick since then. I walk Charlie off leash in the woods so she usually gets tons of tics. We have had Charlie for almost 3 years and this is the first time that she has been tick free for two entire months. She was vaccinated for Lyme disease but ended up getting it anyway when she was about 6mo old. Ticks freak me out. I don't let the dog on the bed so that is not an issue. I worry much less about my kids being harmed from this collar than I do from one of them contracting Lyme or Ehrlichiosis (there have been several cases in my area).
Pros: No ticks
Cons: I don't like the look of having two collars on the do. It is definitely not attractive.
Opinion: If your dog doesn't really get many ticks it may not be worth it but if you live in a tick infested area and you have a dark colored dog I think this is the best product aground.
