This is HONEY!   Isn't she beautiful

To help you understand what she is up against watch this short video.   Honey is just a puppy with two torn ACLS  in her knees.  Her first family just could not afford to have an $8,000 surgery to correct her medical problems.

The thing is, she will be just fine and live a happy normal life is she can have the surgeries on her knees.

Honey is a gorgeous and sweet 8-month-old Goldendoodle puppy with 2 torn and ruptured anterior cruciate ligaments ("ACLs.") Honey's owner had posted a desperate plea here on Doodle Kisses a few weeks ago when her husband refused to pay for surgery to repair Honey's injuries. It was a last attempt to find Honey a new home with someone willing to pay for her surgery before opting for the unthinkable alternative.

Thankfully, all of you here on DK directed Honey's owner to DRC and we spent the last few weeks making arrangements with her owner to get Honey into foster care and into the DRC program.

Well...........We have great news. Thanks to all of our friends here at DK and the efforts of many, sweet Honey is now safe in foster care in Ohio and is scheduled for surgery next week to repair her ACLs!

HONEY'S STORY

Honey's family adopted her through an ad on Craigslist and was completely unaware that Honey had already torn one ACL from rough play with another dog when they adopted her. This was confirmed by a visit to the vet a few days later. The vet warned the family that should they not repair the injury with surgery, Honey had a very high probability of injuring or tearing her other ACL. Shortly after the confirmation of her first injury, Honey did end up tearing her other ACL.

When her family decided they didn't want to pay the nearly $8000 in surgery costs to repair Honey’s injuries, they were instead considering senselessly euthanizing an otherwise perfectly healthy, wonderful and beautiful puppy.

UPDATE

Yesterday, Honey was flown from her home in Seattle, WA to her wonderful foster mom DRC and DK's own Sheri Clement in Ohio.

Our amazing vet, Dr. Rachel of Animal Medical Center In Indianapolis, IN will perform the surgery to repair Honey's ACLs next week. Because of the severity of Honey's injuries, (as you can see in the video) Dr. Rachel will be repairing BOTH ACLs at the same time.

Dr. Rachel has generously offered to perform the surgery on both ACLs for less than the normal cost of ONE surgery

And Honey's prognosis after surgery?............ EXCELLENT!

THANK YOU DR. RACHEL & ANIMAL MEDICAL CENTER!

AND THANK YOU SHERI!

Sheri is special.

One of our very own, Lucy and Sophie's Mom, who recently lost her beautiful 5 year old girl, a therapy dog who helped many,  to Cancer just last month, has offered to take on the care of this girl for the next 5 months of rehab.  If she can do this, we need to help Sheri.  Bless HER.  Thank you, Sheri.

Sheri felt so helpless when all her faithful efforts to save her Sophie did not work.  She passed away.

" I could not help Sophie, but I can help this puppy"

So she will be taking on months and months of care for this  surgery and rehab.

If she can do this, we can give... just a little too.

These donations are in memory of Sophie.  Sophie will help Honey

Honey will be recovering with Sheri and her husband in Ohio post surgery and will be ready for her new forever home sometime in late August.

It's thanks to our wonderful veterinary partners like Dr. Rachel, our amazing volunteers, friends and supporters like our DK family, that DRC is able to help doodles with special needs like Honey, Harper, Gentry and others who may not have been given a chance without our "collective" help.

DRC has set up a fund to cover part of the expense of Honey's pending surgeries and rehabilitation. If you would like to make a contribution to the DRC "Honey Pot" please click on the link below. Donations to DRC are tax deductible and all monies raised will go directly towards Honey's surgery, rehabilitation and post operative care.

Thanks so much for posting such a heart felt plea for help!!  And who says there are no good people in this world anymore.

DK is filled with people with huge hearts!!!

This calls for a <param name="allowscr

LOL

Brilliant news, well done to us all and a very special thanks to DRC and Sheri and her family. This has made my week-end : )

OMD.....this is so fabulous!  We really do ROCK...we really are something when we put our minds and hearts toward something like this sweet Doodle girl who now will have a new life.

Wooooooo!!! Great job everyone!

Done - realise that the goal has been achieved but hoping that any surplus will be put to good use here or elsewhere!

Oh yes, rest assured that anything over goal will be put to very good use to help homeless doodles. Not a week goes by that someone doesn't contact the DRC about another dog with health issues that the owner can't afford to treat. :-(

Great achievement by one wonderful group of special people.

I re-read the original Honey posts and did feel for Elizabeth. I hope she has kept track of Honey and knows that she is now safe and will be fine.  I know many do not agree, but I think she did want to help Honey-she did reach out and not just chuck her aside.

If this is not the biggest wake up call to buy pet insurance I don't know what else could be.

I am sure she did, Lori, but because most of us would figure out a way somehow to heal our beloved dogs, we tend to forget that not everyone is able to figure out how to accomplish it.  I am grateful that the dk community was able to come together to get enough money to help Honey.

This group ROCKS!!!  The goal was met by the time I put my donation in but I have not doubt every penny will be put to good use.  My heart feels happy to be able to do this.  Fozzie, Shaggy, and Gus agreed that the chickens could do without a new feeder right now:)

It's amazing that the Dr. will do this for such a huge discount. That to me speaks volume of the vet. I'm happy to see the amount was exceeded. I'm sure Honey will put it to good use during her rehabilitation. I wonder if there are any doggie rehab centers where she could go to practice walking in a water tub. Thank you, Sheri, for helping Honey so much. DK-ers ROCK!
