Today I had a disscussion Sergeant Al Peterson of the NJ S.P.C.A. Humane Police.  Sergeant Peterson explained that Gov. Christie vetoed a law that would require harnessing an animal in a car.  As a result each policing jurisdiction in NJ has their own guidelines about animals in cars.  Some jurisdictions will ticket you for an unsecured dog based on animal cruelty or as being a distraction to the driver (or some other local or state law).  What is considered an offense varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

Just like so many other laws. What is or isn't legal varies depending on where you are. Since it's best for a dog to be secured in the car anyway, I guess people should just buckle up their dogs regardless of where they are.

I like that.... Every state should follow.....

Oh....PaLEEEEEESE!.....I'm glad that he vetoed it...Not so happy about the state giving each town and law enforcement power .....

You will never see more corrupt law enforcement and court systems and bigger bunches of uneducated morons in positions of power than you see in NJ......It's so sad........

Thanks for the update Andy.

This is wrong.  If you are going to make a law, you need consistency and you need enforcement.  It seems more entrapment when set up this way, so rather than people seeing the positive side of securing your dog, you just feel 'tricked.'
