The other night I was washing blueberries when Vern and Fudge came around to see if something good was happening. I never feed them from the table, but I took two blueberries and gave them each one. Now, when I say I gave them each one, I mean Vern stood and looked at me like, “what am I supposed to do with this blue thing?” Fudge took it gingerly in her mouth and decided to take her newfound treat to the dining room just in case Vern was hot on her tail. Vern was still back in the kitchen deciding whether or not I was trying to poison him or if this was April Fools Day! Once he saw that Fudge was interested in her blueberry, he decided to give it a shot and took the blueberry from me as if I had just handed him a loaded gun. He promptly ran into the dining room and spit it on the floor. From there, both dogs decided a better place to eat a blueberry would be in the sunroom and picked their bounty up and ran out the door only to spit it on the carpet out there. I was envisioning having to get the carpet cleaned by the time each of them downed one stinking blueberry.
Fudge finally ate her new treat, but Vern decided there were some things he absolutely refused to swallow and lo and behold, it was a blueberry. Who knew the dog that eats mud, grass, goose poop, and Kleenex had a discerning palate? I guess he had to draw the line somewhere. Luckily, Fudge decided one blueberry was not enough and was more than happy to eat Vern’s. Fudge has the body of someone who loves fruits and vegetables. Vern’s body is more of a meat and cheese kind of shape. I think Vern takes after me, because I like my blueberries with a little sugar on them or with ice cream or even surrounded by a muffin. Unfortunately for Vern, I have to draw the line somewhere, too.
Is there some food or treat that your dog surprisingly will not eat?

LOL...reminds me of that old show, Who's the Boss? I have a couple of monsters, too :)
Well, an apple is probably cheaper than a chew toy :) LOL
Did you really post this at 4am??? I need to get my coffee first before I reply. :-)
No way, Jarka! Probably the 3 hour time difference and it was 7 am and then I went back to sleep :)
Ned supplements his diet, not with fruits or veggies, but with Kleenex, trash and checking out his coat after rolling in disgusting stuff. However, NONE of my dogs will eat fruits or veggies - not even if they are 'accidentally' dropped on the floor. As far as they are concerned, all fruits and veggies are poisonous. They did eat the green beans I mixed with their food for a while - but this was only because it was mixed with their yummy kibble. They will eat peanut butter with pills and, of course, they would eat a sandwich or steak if it were left available, but fruit and veggies - nope!
My two love Kleenex and toilet paper too Nancy! I have to admit, sometimes when Kona comes in the bathroom with me, I peel apart the two ply toilet paper and give half of it to her to eat. She get's soooo happy, what a little nut.
You are nuts, Gina! I love that you spoil Kona like that. I am so busy 'protecting' the house from 'stolen' goods that I never thought to reward him for not stealing. Gordie's ear medicine has been missing for a week. I found the cleaning solution on the floor and the cotton pads - all over the room, but the medicine or its container is still a mystery.
LOL I know :)
I was folding socks yesterday and had them piled on the bed. I have to keep an eagle eye on Buddy, because he loves to steal them. Sure enough, a commercial came up, I went in to fold some more and out comes Bud, sock hanging out of mouth. He is soooo sassy :) Mine wouldn't think of going near ear medication or cotton balls, they run for the hills when they even think I am thinking of cleaning ears....
Vern steals a sock every morning. I find them outside a lot :) I swear he smiles when he does it and loves my reaction. I call him a "little stinker," and then he drops it. The other day for the first time in YEARS, I caught Fudge with the end of my rug in her mouth. I guess she wants to be a little stinker, too, although she earns that title in so many other ways :)
Oh Vern & Fudge remind me so much of my two!
Bender likes to take everything outside too... especially socks!! I hate it when he goes through our laundry hamper and I find laundry outside...in a pile! Not sure how he figured out how to open the top and stick his face inside even when its not full and he has to REACH! I especially hate it when I find DH's boxers outside! :/
Zoe used to chew up all the rugs. My front entrance rug is a horrendous sight but I have yet to replace it. I had a really cute loop rug in our room but she kept chewing and undoing the loops. Had to return it.
My daughter had a dog that would take her husband's socks out into the yard and bury them. It was hilarious--there would be a little speck of cloth in the flowerbed, and when you tried to pick it up, there was a sock! These were clean ones, too!
Ah, but it isn't NED's ear medicine.... he hasn't ever had an ear infection and was too young to remember that he came to us with foxtails in his ears and throat that required surgical removal and lots of medicine.
