This is a warning against Hartz Flea treatment products. It has caused numerous deaths in cats and dogs, not to mention severe burns (like this one) and seizures. Veterinarians say it is pure poison

P.S. I have NEVER heard anything good about Hartz.

eeeewwww. I never knew... Sounds like the Twinky story....

Walmart also sells Frontline Plus but I'm assuming the thought is that its not safe to buy from there since it may not come from a trusted source

Hmmm; the last time I was at Walmart, I walked through the pet section and didn't see one single thing I would use if they gave it to me for free, but maybe they keep it somewhere else.

I just try really hard not to patronize Walmart. I go there twice a year to buy contact lens solution, and if I could avoid going that often, I would.

Is Amazon ok?

I really think you need to know the seller and the source. There's a lot of countefeit product out there. The savings are just not big enough to take a risk, IMO.

I have had no problem with Amazon. But you do have to know the product and seller.

Thanks, Karen.  I guess the only thing Walmart IS good for is the gross pictures of the people who shop there.

Lori, I just love those pictures.  They make me laugh every time.

My cat (many years ago) actually had a severe reaction to flea shampoo and licked it off her skin.  She almost died and was in the hospital for over a week.  But TOO MUCH stuff at Walmart (and actually your own supermarket) are made in China.  I just look at labels and anything made in China or ingredients made in China, I just put down.  It is hard getting good products for our animals, and expensive, but worth it.

And this raises another question with me.  Harpo, my 3-yr-old ALD, uses Frontline Plus for ticks and fleas.  I hate using insecticide on my animals but it is better than the alternative (ticks on my pets).  There has been some question about these products causing breast cancer and Harpo has had a little pustule on a nipple.  He has also had poison oak again, so maybe something there.  My husband says to watch it, but not anything to be concerned about.  Seems strange to go to the vet for something like this, so I am just watching it.

I think it's true, I remember this story in the Seattle Times. While it doesn't mention which type of medicine, the reaction seems very similar and occurred with a GD.
