Sensitive stomachs?

I have an 8 month old male goldendoodle.  I have had issues from the beginning with what seems to be a sensitive stomach. I have asked the vet and they didn't seem to concerned with it at the time. He tends to throw up during the night. I give him 100% pure pumpkin on occasion as it is said to calm their stomachs.  It helped for a while but not seeming to be helping as much now. The trouble had stopped for a little while and is now back again. I even had to switch his dog food when he was much younger as I thought it might have been the grains or gluten. He now eats Holistic Select brand dog food. It seemed to help his stomach some too. Although nothing seems to absolutely CURE it! Has anyone else had problems with this?  It seems very odd to me that it only happens very early in the morning or late at night when we are asleep (typically between 1am-6:30am). I thought maybe he was getting hungry in the night it was causing him to become sick, so I tried feeding him a little later and that didn't really do much. He is fed twice a day (once in the morning around 7 am and once in the evening around 5:30pm).

Wiggins had the same problems in the middle of the night. This particular problem (there were others) we solved by giving him a small snack just before bed.....a small handful of his kibble.

Lucy also has this problem,usually occurring in the morning before her first meal. She's not the kind to want to eat before bed so what I do is keep her in her crate until her breakfast is ready, and then I let her out. It seems its activity on an empty stomach that starts the vomiting. It doesn't sound like that's the case with your puppy, though, unless he is out of his crate at night.

How much do you all feed them on a daily basis? I am curious what the average is that he should be eating a day.

Victoria, there is no such thing as "the average" he should be eating a day, because every food has a different calorie content, and that can vary by as much as 150 calories more or less per cup between two foods. So 2 cups of Food A might contain as many calories as 3 cups of Food B.  In addition, the calories a dog needs per day depend on their age, their current weight, their activity level, and with puppies, their expected adult weight. 

Use the feeding guidelines on the package or the manufacturer's website as a starting point, and adjust up or down as necessary for your individual dog.
