Hi all!

My little Birdie is 9 weeks old, and now that we have had her for more than 2 weeks, I am looking into buying something better than the Purina puppy chow that the breeder had her on.  I really like what I have read of Fromms, and think I will start with that brand and see how she does.  I just noticed yesterday how many varieties of food the company has, and wondered if I could buy one of those instead of the just of the regular puppy formula?  Or do I need to start with the puppy formula?

Thanks in advance! :)

Sara, I know this isn't your question, but I am a little concerned. If Birdie is 9 weeks old and you have had her for more than 2 weeks, how old was she when you got her? Puppies should not leave their mothers/litters until they are at least 8 weeks old.

Fromm's Four Star line is normally fine for puppies, but your girl is so young, and given that she left the litter so young and has been eating a really poor quality food, I think it would be better for her to get the extra nutrition that a puppy formula provides. You have lots and lots of time to add variety and buy all different kinds of formulas when she's a little older, but for now, I'd stick with one basic puppy formula until she's a little older and her digestive system has matured.

I am big fan or Orijin Puppy

As am I, lol. But there are lots of good choices. Almost anything would be better than Purina Puppy Chow.

@Karen, Birdie was just a couple days shy of 7 weeks when I picked her up, something that I didn't realize until we got there.  Birdie has been such a great dog so far, and very healthy considering the Purina ;), I just don't think the breeder knows any better.  Thanks for your advice.  I will start her on the Fromm's puppy line as soon as possible.

I should add that my breeder doesn't normally let her pups go home that early; they are usually at least 7 weeks old, but it ended up this time being that early for some reason.  I really, really like the breeder that I chose.:)

Breeder should not let puppies be adopted before 8 weeks.

My Laila loves Orijen puppy food, I think whatever brand you choose, it's better to stick with the puppy formula as she is still growing and requires the extra calories and specific nutrients that are found in it. I've started adding extra toppings such as 1/4 of a chopped apple, steamed carrots,  1 tbsp yogurt(plain, low fat) or cottage cheese. Birdie looks so cute!
