Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have a 10-week old goldendoodle.  I have brushed here here and there, but just while she was "free".  Whenever i brush her, she thinks it's a huge play session.  She is pure puppy and wants to play all the time biting at the brush and my hand.  Is there something I should do that I don't know about?  Or does it just take time and consistency?

I apologize if this has been asked before, I attempted a search, but didn't see anything come up.  Thank you in advance!

Oops, by "free" I just mean not on a leash!

Oddly enough it seems to make a difference where they are. Goldie will still do this if I'm at her level and brushing her but if I pick her up and put her on the table, counter or any higher surface she goes right into tolerating grooming mode. You might try that.

This is similar to Lucy's reaction to brushing. She tolerates it much more if I go into the 'grooming' bathroom, where I do the dood's bathing, drying and general grooming. If I attempt it in a common area of the house she usually puts up some kind of resistance. Lucy is 3-1/2 yrs old, btw. Time and consistency does help in the long run, too. Oscar, my 8-1/2 mo. old, LOVES to be brushed, and will stand still for it anytime, anywhere. It really is a temperament thing, imo.

Thank you!  So interesting, and it does make sense.  I'll try setting her on the table and see if she calms down a bit.  I'm guessing she will.  What puppy would carry on and still want to play while standing on a table..LOL..

I love this forum - you're all so helpful!

What great advice...My 12 Week old puppy does the exact same thing, trying to bite the brush and comb, my hands, my clothes...it is all a big game for her!!!  Will try the "table" level and "bath time bathroom" examples and hope they work!

OK, I tried setting her up high (her kennel).  However, no such luck.  The height didn't phase her.  She did find her bully stick while up there and proceeded to chew on that.  I was able to brush her all over while chewing on that.  I'm guessing that's not a good habit to get into though?  I would think it would be highly irritating to be groomed while chewing on a prized food?
