As a mulit Doodle owner I would suggest that if you are considering it then do it earlier rather then later. I only say this because I had a Goldendoodle that was my only dog for many years and my constant companion. Then when I got another one she was excited for the first week, then wondered when the little one was gonna go back to it's owner, ha. Nice if they grow up together.
One Doodle is never enough, but I can't convince my DH of that:) LOL
I agree with the others, you definitely need two+ doodles! Yes, it is more expensive but definitely worth it!
When I got the second doodle,it was the best thing ever. They played together all the time. They almost potty trained each other because Shea was trained and he would show Mya where to go. Get another ,you won't be sorry. I have three now. These dogs are the best dogs I've ever had...
These comments are so interesting to me. We have two dogs but one is quite old and honestly likely won't be with us much longer, and then we have our young 1 1/2 year old Doodle, Rooney. So, even though Rooney and Reagan (the Old Man) have been amiable companions this past year, they haven't had much of a chance to be buddies. Reagan just doesn't have the mobility and stamina to play like Rooney would like to and for the most part Rooney respects that.
So, I do think about what we will do when Reagan leaves us (sniff sniff) and even though part of me loves the idea of going back to being a one dog family, it is enticing to think about Rooney having a true playmate and buddy around. I think he would love it. I just can't decide if I'm up for it!
Oh well...thank goodness we still have some time to think about it. We won't do anything with Reagan still around. He survived Rooney's puppyhood but we wouldn't ask that of him again. :)
DoodleBug -- I'm going through this exact scenario right now. To add a little history we started out with two liter mate Sisters 5 years ago. I've watched over the years as everyone talked about the right age to add another but never had advice. Then we lost our Sophie in March and became a one doodle household. It was like we didn't even have a dog. So much different than having two. Never any fighting, rough housing, playing, just a big ole doodle laying around the house or yard. We went on Vacation to FL and it was so strange only having one dog to walk on the beach with. Then came Honey, our foster girl who was 10 months when she arrived. Along with her came the two doodle workload, the play returned, the fighting returned, and the house seemed somewhat normal again. Then, along came AnnaBelle our currently 13 week old Doodle Puppy. I'll have to say along with AnnaBelle's arrival I witnessed my sanity's departure! Three is just a little crazy (for me). We have exceeded the adult to dog ratio. More importantly I wanted to talk a little about the play factor. Lucy (5) and Honey (now 11 months) play very well together. Lucy had to warm up to her, and she is a little protective of some toys and her food, but she is adjusting. I've had to stop letting them play outside because of Honey's knees, but when they are rough housing I can let them go at it because they both understand enough is enough when one has had it. Honey and AnnaBelle (13 wks) though is another story. They love to play, and I have to say for the most part Honey is very good with her, but after a few mins the play just gets a little rough for me and a lot of that is AnnaBelle. I really have to watch them. Honey is still very much a puppy at 10-11 months. It will all even out once AnnaBelle is bigger and more mature and Honey is more mature, but two puppies of such varying sizes isn't a cakewalk. For me having a puppy again has been very interesting. I'm used to saying "sit or stay or wait or down" and expecting results. I would say that I think having the first one well trained before adding a 2nd is a great thing. Lucy has a couple bad habits that I already see showing up in AnnaBelle so I have to get on that ASAP. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it now, I'm just saying be prepared! I wouldn't trade it for the world, but I'm not going to be sad to see these puppy teeth go away and some of this training to start sinking in! Good Luck.
OMD! She's so precious!
She is so adorable- how could you resist!
