We have a lovely fenced backyard that Nutmeg has been enjoying for the two months we've had her. It's been great to conveniently let her out to go to the bathroom and let her zoom around the yard and play fetch without worrying about her running away. Up until now, the worst thing she does out there is chew on a stick or a bit of mulch. But all of a sudden we are finding rabbit poop all over the yard, and she is obsessed with eating it! She came to us from the breeder with coccidia (which is long since treated and gone), so I'm paranoid about her getting a parasite again. Are my only alternatives to leash her or follow her every move around the yard? My husband planted our garden a few weeks ago, so I suspect that there's something in there that the rabbits are attracted to, since we didn't seem to have the poop out there until recently. Is there anything we could spray or plant that would repel them from coming into the yard?

Cute!
Love the garlic. You would think you lived near Gilroy (garlic capitol). I think my dogs would be pulling them down and eating them. But a great accent to your beautiful fence.
Lynda, most animals wont touch garlic. Or dig them up. Potatoes maybe. Squash maybe. My Mastiff used to lay in the garden and eat my green beans and squash. UGH!
The garlic farms in my area where old converted farms from other crops because of the high deer population. Deer will not eat or bother the garlic crops :)
Auggie does the same thing! What is it about the rabbit poop? I remember Monty eating the rabbit poop as well when he was a puppy. He does not anymore. Perhaps they grow out of it. We used to have a bunny in our small backyard when we moved in, but after we got Monty, the rabbit stopped his visits for his own safety. But we live by an open area and there is plenty of rabbits, as well as filthy prairie dogs out there. Auggie tries to eat their poop as well when on the trail.
I have another suggestion - Try to locate the rabbit poop and spray it with bitter apple. We were able to stop our dogs from eating acorns by randomly spraying some acorns on our lawn.
It ia at least worth a try.
I was just outside looking at some plants in the yard when.... Spud JUMPED and went nuts at something on the other side of the fence. I peeked through and there was a giant deer, frozen, just on the other side. I could see the whites of the eyes. Big Boy
uh oh, I hear deer poop is considered gourmet!
Yup, rabbit poop is an appetizer - deer poop is the main course unless they can get moose poop but they have to travel a bit further than the back yard to get that!
thank goodness Long Island does not serve Moose Poop!
