Flea/tick preventative--any alternatives?
I know we have had a few discussions like this before, but I want to know if anyone can give me an opinion on what works well for fleas and ticks BESIDES the topicals--and in addition to diatomaceous earth (which I already know about).
I had the pleasure of grooming a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel today (first time!) who belongs to my neighbor and he has had a terrible reaction to Advantix--he seems to have very sensitive skin and was unhappy for several hours after it was applied--so, the owner is looking for an effective alternative. We live in the heart of Lyme disease country and he also goes back and forth to NYC--he does not have fleas right now but did a few months ago. They have them under control, but want to keep it that way!
Right now she has a flea collar from her vet (Not the seresto collar but not sure of the name of it) and is shampooing him with an organic shampoo with cedar oil, etc to repel fleas.
Has anyone had any luck with other treatments?

We have had Harley on Trifexis (heartworm/flea/intestinalworms) since he has been old enough to take it. I can honestly say that I have never seen a flea on him. He is an inside dog though, never left outside for long periods of time. We also have several friends who use this for their dogs and we started my DD's dog on it when they moved in recently. He had fleas pretty bad and he also has allergies to food and fleas...all tolerating it well.

Our doodles had bad reactions to Advantix too. We use Advantage II but do not live in a bad area for ticks. I'm sorry for this little Cav.

Bayer just came out with a new collar. It is called Seresto. Read more HERE. Supposedly safe even if the dog eats it. My dog has been wearing it for a month, no ticks. We don't really get fleas where I live. So far so good.
