Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Well, we couldn't choose just one...we just brought home two F1b goldendoodles from Callaway breeders (Md.) - sisters! Commander Bootes ('Bootes') is a gorgeous black girl and Captain Noodles ('Noodles') is a precious creamy-peachy girl.

I'm sure many of you more experienced dog lovers out there know this isn't the best thing to do - litter mates are difficult to train etc.  I wasn't thinking of all those implications, just thinking, oh well, if we have to train one how hard can training two be? Well the answer is: exponentially harder! Note to self: Research BEFORE making such a big decision! I also work from home so it's great to have my 19-year-old at home for the summer to help. My 22-year-old will be home soon too, so they each can take one puppy for the day!

They are really just babies now (only eight weeks old) so I know things will keep getting better. For now, we've decided based on some research to crate them separately at night. Last night was the first time - WOW. Poor things. I just kept thinking, I hope this is the right thing to do!

We're also trying to do other things separately, i.e. feeding them from two different bowls (now that's a comical thing to see!), taking them out separately once in a while, and of course, giving each one individual attention and cuddles while we reinforce their names.

These dogs are the most beautiful creatures. They are so smart - each one already learned the 'sit' command! We're amazed and so thankful. We just really want them to be happy as part of our family.

I'd also love to get any advice or words of wisdom from everyone!

p.s. I'll post pictures soon!

Ha! I came here to say my only words of wisdom are "Don't Do it" but it looks like you already did. All I can say is good luck!  You are not alone. You will get lots of help here, and it sounds like you have some helpers at home too.  Now, let's see some pics of the little munchkins!

Pics soon!

I know I'll get lots of help and support on this site. So glad I found this great community of people and doodles!

Bootes and Noodles are great names! Congratulations and enjoy!

Thank you! We love their names too. But like with my kids, I am tending to call one the other's name!

Congratulations!  We only have one, so no words of wisdom - but there are lots here that have siblings or near siblings.  Enjoy puppyhood!

Thanks. I can tell they love each other, although sometimes their tussling gets a bit out of hand and we have to distract them. Noodles is bigger than Bootes so she tends to treat Bootes like her baby - cleans her after potty time, etc. So sweet.

I heard in the long run ...two are better than one.....they keep themselves busy ,etc....let us know how they/you do !!!

Tamara - I heard that too - I really think it's just getting them through this puppy/training phase that's the kicker!

I'll keep everyone posted!

Thank you!

Welcome to the "twins" club! We have 19 week old brothers, Cody and Casey. Cody is black with a curly coat and could easily be mistaken for a standard poodle. Casey is cream with a wavy coat that looks like a "typical" doodle. We are just finishing up a 6-week puppy class. My husband and I each take one and stand where they can't see or interact with each other.

They have separate crates. We feed in the crate. After feeding, though, we typically let them out of crate into our sunroom which has become just an indoor kennel. We walk, train, and play with them separately. At night, I frequently let them into the bedroom where we all pile up in the bed together for some cuddle and play time before taking them outside to potty one last time before putting them to bed in their individual crates. Casey loves his crate and goes in and sleeps fine all night. Cody doesn't! He wants out and is quite vocal about it. He will finally settle down and sleep ok until about 5 am which he has decided is wake-up time. The breeder swears that they truly are litter-mate brothers, but they couldn't be more different personality wise.

Even though I got several warning that we were doing the wrong thing by getting two at the same time, I wouldn't make any other decision. For us, it has been great. They are great pals, they play hard and cuddle hard with each other, but they do fine when we have them separated, too.

That's so reassuring to hear! And your boys look a lot like my girls. They move so fast it's hard to get a good picture of them but I'll share soon I hope! Thanks so much.

Congrats! Love the names too! Buckle your seatbelt, eh? :). Can't wait to see pictures.
