They start changing their coat at around 8-10 months, full adult coat sometimes doesn't grow in until about 2 years old.
Puppy coats are a dream, aren't they? They can go thru many changes in the first year and really change a lot at around 12-15 months--but some don't change at all!
Here is an example of a 51/2 month old pup who just had his very first haircut--first pic he is 4 months old, then 5 1/2 months before his haircut then after his cut--his coat has completely changed! And it isn't done yet! Although he does look exactly like his mom now, so maybe he is done changing?
Here is mom (who is my dog, Lyric) and son, who I am currently dogsitting.....

They are gorgeous and identical. That's crazy!
Too cute! He MIGHT lighten a bit and get curlier--but really, it is hard to predict--just fun to watch!
