Finleys breath is awful. I thought I remembered reading somewhere here that while they are teething, they can have really bad smelling, fishy breath. I hadn't noticed anything until today but Finley's breath is TERRIBLE! It smells like fish. Nothing in his diet has changed, the only thing I can think of is that he is teething. He had surgery this week (he got neutered) but this couldn't be affecting his breath could it? Did I dream the fishy/bad breath, teething thing or is that real? If so, does anyone know why?

I vaguely remember that too.

Charlie's breath was terrible while teething. It was around Halloween, I joked it was vampire breath. Something between blood, rot, and fish. I was checking his anal glands for the longest time before I realized it was actually his mouth... not his glands.

It definitely went away once his adult teeth came in!

Yes Julie, that is the smell! Lol!

Oskar had fish breath too while he was teething...awful !   :)

Hi guys...just an update, for those of you that are curious. I was at the vet this weekend for Finns check up and I asked about this. Apparently it smells like rot because it is rot! My vet says that the root is in essence rotting when the tooth falls out and that some dogs have worse breath than others but that's why. Finn is having a terrible time with his teething. None of my puppies have ever had this much trouble. There is blood on all his toys and his breath is SO BAD! I am finding whole teeth everywhere and they are falling out when we are playing tug of war. I'm hoping this ends soon because I don't know how much longer I can take this breath!!!
Wow. We've been wondering about that. I'm so glad it will go away someday :-)
