Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi there!  I just got a puppy and he is a mini F2 Golden doodle but he doesn't really look like the typical golden doodle.  I have been researching the mini golden doodle for I would say at least a year and a half and the image that I had in mind when I got my golden doodle is nothing like what I got. So clearly I did not research enough!  I probably sound like a horrible person but I had my heart set on the fluffy bearded golden doodle.  I bought him long distance and my mom got one of his sisters.  She is very fluffy, the exact dog I had in mind.... the moment I saw my little guy, I knew he looked different, his hair was more like fuzzy, almost like polar fleece.  I thought he might be slow fluffer coming into his doodleness but the more I research the more scared I am that he is not the dog I had pictured in my mind.  He is the sweetest little guy, just not what I had in terms of the picture in my mind.  I am a dog lover but I feel like this will be the last puppy I get most likely and I don't want to be disappointed every time I look at him and to spend the amount of money I did on him...I don't know.  I know that sounds horrible.  I would love opinions about his doodleness and can post more pics!

He's darling.  Judging by the lack of fuzz around his snout, eyes, he might not be too doodley in the face.  Sometimes doodles have that 'open face' which looks like a retriever.  Did your breeder know the 'look' or coat type you wanted?

We have a group here on DK with many great doodles who do not have the face furnishings.

Where is the Poodle in my Doodle?

Yes, he does have an open face, but a gorgeous coat--that picture from the back shows the lovely waves--his face may stay open (but adorable!) but I think his coat will be very nice otherwise--and they do change A LOT as they grow--it is disappointing when you think you will have a fluffy pup, but once you get to know him, I think his appearance will be secondary to his great personality--and he really is adorable--such lovely colors!

He is absolutely adorable and I think he will get very Doodly, but maybe not in the face.  I love his coloring and judging by that picture of the other litter he is going to be one cute Doodle:)

He sure is a cutie!  I don't think there's any guarantee that a dog won't shed.  Some of us get lucky, some of us don't.  I hope you and your new furbaby will fall in love with each other.  I would bet he is already in love with you!

If you are looking for a specific "look" and a dog that doesn't shed, maybe this isn't the breed for you after all.  There is no guarantee what ANY doodle puppy will look like and whether or not it will shed.  There are definitely "for the most part" types of traits but no guarantees on anything.  You may get a muppet-type dog that sheds horribly or an open face doodle that doesn’t shed at all.  Be prepared for the unknown; every litter has the potential to be a crap shoot, even the breeders that have “been breeding for years” understand this.  Good Luck whatever you decide.

Unfortunately, it looks like this puppy was purchased from a BYB ad on Kijiji and did not come from an experienced reputable breeder:

"They all need to be gone by July 25th" doesn't sound like a breeder willing to take back a puppy...

Doesn't sound like this breeder has ANY kind of guarantee and I was thinking the same thing as you, Diane, what happened to those not gone by the 25th?  I'm afraid to ask what this "breeder" did to those pups.

Roxygirl, did you actually visit the breeder and see the parent dogs or just take the word of the person from the internet?  Unfortunately, it sounds as if you were taken advantage of and the breeder will most likely not take the pup back.  Are you willing to deal with this should that happen?  If not, people here can offer you other solutions; my solution would be to keep the dog because no matter what it looked like, being the sucker I am I'd have fallen in love instantaneously and now would be looking for a second dog instead of swapping.  LOL

I know. I don't think there is much that can be expected from this "breeder". When I made the suggestion of waiting for a pup from another litter, I thought it was someone reputable.

Good thing Roxy doesn't live close to me, I'd have another dog at my house.

Haha - I told my husband about this situation and he said "no we're not bringing the puppy home, we're due to have a baby tomorrow" :p
