Oliver hurt Angel, our 15 year old 12 pound sheltie, again tonight. Hubs said it  was dominance behaviour he tried to mount her after flinging her about the room  which apparently all happened in the bit of a heart beat.  I was doing  laundry so wasn't present.

I'm at a loss as to what to do when he tries to  dominate her, and it's NOT playing!  I did finally find out from the  previous owners that he's an alpha male to the point that even the husband cowed  to him.

He's ONLY nine months old and weighs 75-85 pounds already!  Submission techniques are  not working on him he wants to push everyone and everything onto the floor and stand on top of them.

No he's not neutered.

I'd make that neuter appointment first thing tomorrow morning.

I agree!

Ditto.

second thing tomorrow is to look for a trainer to come to your home and watch their behavior to give you the best advice to work on this between them.

I agree to this too!

IMO he is not alpha, he is a bully - big difference. An alpha does not have to prove they are - they just are.

I think he's just a big adolescent puppy who has spent the first 9 months of his life with no training and not enough exercise.

I agree!

He ran free on a half acre property just up until recently where he spent the last few weeks in a crate before we got him.  He gets about a mile plus of exercise a day, I have knee problems and am working up to five miles with him but it's not going to happen over night.

I wasn't planning on leaving him in the run alone.  My goal with the run was to play ball with him, he fetches without being told to do so if you throw a ball he runs after it and brings it back.  Yes now that college is back in session here I'm looking for someone who likes dogs, runs, and would be interested in running with a dog that is not trained yet, we have a huge vet college here so there should be plenty of candidates to chose from.

So this big, growing, completely untrained sporting dog puppy went from running free on a half acre to being cooped up in a crate most of the time, to being shipped in cargo to a strange place filled with strange people, sights and smells, where nothing and nobody is familiar. Considering all that, he's actually doing remarkably well. Many dogs under these circumstances would be tearing apart anything they could get their teeth on.

He has been chewing and a lot, he got ahold of a case of POM toilet tissue Saturday night, and ripped through several rolls.   Trying to hurt Angel is not acceptable, no matter his beginnings.
