NYS Thruway/Adirondack Northway looking for a pet friendly pit stop

Hi doodle friends. I'm headed up to the Adirondacks on Thursday morning. Just me and my doodle Duncan. It's a 5 hour drive. Last year I lucked out that it was cool and cloudy and I left Duncan in the car while I ran into a rest area to pee. It was the worst 12 minutes of my life. He was totally fine but all I kept thinking about was someone breaking my car window and stealing him. Ugh! Anyway, I'm either wearing an adult diaper this year or hopefully finding someone who happens to live along the Thruway that would offer me their "powder room" or some recommendation of a place where I can take Duncan into the bathroom with me. I just can't bear the thought of leaving him alone in the car. Any suggestions??? he's 31 pounds so a bit to heavy to smuggle inside in a bag. HMMMM maybe a stroller? LOL.

You could try doing a google search for a Petsmart that is just off the highway!  Or even a Lowe's or anytype of hardware or garden center type place.  Try dogfriendly.com and see what is along your route you are taking.  I know rest stops don't allow dogs but maybe there is a state park of some sort.

that's a great idea! There's a petsmart right along the route about 1/2 way. I'm calling them now to see if they'll let me take duncan into the restroom with me or just get one of the cashiers to watch him. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm sure at Petsmart you can go in the restroom anywhere.  We go all the time at ours.

Yup I take my dogs into the restroom with me all the time!

YAY!!! There's a Petsmart in Albany which is about 3 hours into my trip! PERFECT!! OMG thanks so much for the suggestion. Now I'm ready to plan a cross country trip. HAHA!
