Hi Guys

So my almost 7-month-old (cant believe she is getting so big) doodle has been getting really itchy lately.

She bites her paws, hips and scratches her neck all the time. She takes trifexis for fleas and heartworm so she does not have fleas.

She eats Origin food, which is supposed to be top of the line so I doubt its allergies.

I bathe her about every two weeks with Earth Bath shampoo and conditioner which is "natural"

I read that apple cider vinegar helps with this so I sprayed her today after diluting it with water. She hated it and I'm anxious to see if it helps

I don’t see any open sores or redness so I am baffled as to why this is happening to her

Am I bathing her to often?

We live in Florida and its really hot and sticky here so she gets wet and muddy when playing outside

Any other suggestions?

Thank you

Have her checked out at the vet to see if yeast, or any other infection is growing. Is her skin real red between the pads of her feet, elbows, armpits, neck? That was/is Sparky's problem because he is often wet in the pool and although cut short, he still takes a while to dry in our "dry" heat of AZ, I couldn't imagine in FL! I try to always dry him with towels when he gets out of the pool. A high-powered dryer is on my wish list to help him dry faster. My groomer would say every other week for a bath is too much. I asked about bring mine in every 6 weeks for a bath and brush and he didn't want to do it any more often than that.

i sometimes add coconut oil - about a tablespoon with her food. Im going to do it more often to see if it helps.

Mine get 1 1/2 teaspoons with each meal. Holy cow has it helped with Noodle's scabby underside of her ears, and it has helped Thunder get around so much better! He is only 8 but is slowing down fast and this helps him. I swear by it and am afraid to stop using it. I am not sure if it has helped Sparky's yeast problems, but that will always be a problem until he stays out of the pool. Karen recommends Evening Primrose oil (but not for seizure dogs). http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/herb/evening-primrose-oil

of coconut oil or olive oil?

Coconut Oil

I wonder if it is just dry skin?  The only time Charlie and Beau get a bath is when they go to the groomer every 8 or 9 weeks.  I wonder if you brought her in and let her dry and brushed her, if you would need to bath so frequently.  That being said, I do remember when Beau was about 5 - 6 months olds he seemed to be scratching a lot too and rubbing his ears (which were always dirty).  It seemed like I was cleaning his ears everyday and when he was scratching I would get a brush and brush that area gently and that seemed to help.  Now that he is one, he no longer has either of those issues.  See what your vet says.  Hopefully your girl will out grow this too!

Years ago, my vet recommended giving our dogs a spoonful of cod liver oil in their food 2-3x a week for their itchy skin. (They were mini schnauzers, who have notoriously bad skin). It worked like a charm! Ask your vet of course.
