Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My 13 month old labradoodle was attacked as i took her out to go potty.  Fortunately, the dogs owner immediately raced to his dog and was able to minimize the damage.  I also grabbed my dog in my arms so her body was protected although the dog still had her ear in his mouth.  My dog's ear was chewed up and leg bitten...would have been much worse except owner fought with everything he had to release his dog.  My dog went to ER and attacking dog's owner went to ER in ambulance.  Anyways, my question is how do i deal with my dog so she doesn't now bite or go on the attack.   She now growls at every sound and at everything that moves.  I'm out of town so for now i'm keeping her inside with me.  ANY suggestions would be very much appreciated.   I'm afraid if another dog tries to play with her...she'll think its another attack.  I live in Kalamazoo MI area if anyone knows any professionals who would be helpful please recommend.    Thanks In  Advance!!

I have not seen the dog outside since the incident happened!  Hopefully, they will have the dog evaluated and have learned a lesson the hard expensive way!!

How scary for you and your doodle. I am glad to hear she is doing better. I too think I will go and get some citronella spray to carry just in case. One of the vets in Hamilton, Mi. is like the one you described. He will sit down and talk calmly to my pets before he examines them and he explains in detail so we understand the issues that are going on with the pet. Might be worth looking into them. But that is a ways from the Kalamazoo area.

Send me his name....I have no problem making the drive!!  I'm actually in Allegan. Everything is a long drive.  I take Shelby to the groomer in Hamilton. I also drive all the way to the Saugatuck dog park.  I'll probably give dog parks a rest until I know she's ready to play with strange dogs.

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who posted.  I ended up bringing Shelby back to Michigan and boarding her at our regular day care since her outdoor fears were not improving.  Almost immediately...she seemed better.  They kept a close eye on her and she was able to ease back into playing with her friends while I went back to Illinois.  Now that I'm back home...I took her to play with my sister's Visla and after a brief growling.....which scared us....they were back in the groove.  I'm thinking she's going to be fine....thankfully!  Keeping her away from where the attack happened seemed to be key as well as the gradual return to day care on her terms.  Thanks again to everyone on doodlekisses for allowing me to vent and getting me through the first couple days.
