First, poor Luca suffered a broken tail and eventually had to have part of it surgically removed as the result of a visit to the groomer. :(

Then I saw this story & video about a groomer beating and abusing dogs she was being paid to groom:

Now, the worst story yet: A dog who died after being thrown against a wall by a groomer at the vet's office!!!!

I'm afraid to leave JD anywhere at this point.

What I can't figure out is why anyone who could do things like this to a helpless dog chose a profession where they spend their days working with dogs.

Oh Karen, this is sickening. I have to believe Luca's case was an accident because I could not deal with the fact that someone would hurt him like that intentionally. No wonder the poor dog in the crate wouldn't come out. I think there are just sociopathic, heartless people in this world.

I really is scary. I'm sure that Luca's case was just an accident too, because you are a good judge of character. :)

But it's always bothered me that the groomer had no idea how it happened. Every time I leave JD at the groomer, I have visions of him falling off the grooming table.

But in these cases of deliberate abuse, I just cannot understand why these people are doing the kind of work they're doing. You have to go to school and get licensed for this, don't you? Why would you do that if you don't love dogs? Nobody who loves dogs could do these kinds of things. I just don't get it.

You know I don't even know if they are licensed. And people are desperate for work.

I know, but dog grooming doesn't seem like the kind of job just anyone can walk in off the street and do. Maybe I'm naive. Around here, it seems you need a "following".

Agree!

I just did doodle nails and ears tonight and was feeling glad that I have opted to give up doing all my own doodle grooming. It is so hard for me to do it all. But at least if you go to a place with several people working and owners in and out there is some hope this stuff couldn't go on.

JD's groomer owns the shop. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

Who knows.
I use 2 different groomers in fla & in Glenview, il..they both do their grooming in glass enclosed areas wide visibility to the public...both are housed in pet boutiques. One other one I have used has all the grooming done right out in the middle of the shop
Several groomers & customers in/out all day...pretty transparent ...what is questionable is she has dogs there for doggie day care...it's a very small shop & I have never seen them take anyone out to potty...but it has got to happen..she's in a strip shopping center...not really conducive for this at all. Have to admit not until my doodle was I this uber concerned about investigating everything that happened with my dog. My Maltese I took in, dropped off & never thought twice about any of this...she never had any problems..maybe a close shave once or twice in 14 yrs.

I have always been afraid leaving any of my pets, especially Camus, in the care of strangers and this confirms my fears. Even when I take him to have his nails trimmed - I watch. Thankfully, he does not require professional grooming, plus I have wonderful friends who keep and take care of him when I am out of town.

I just heard a story on the radio about a 5 mo baby in the care of a sitter during the day..2 yr old doodle also in the home. Doodle suddenly started to whine/whimper when sitter arrived..owners/parents thought it odd..usually a very quiet dog. One day DH decided to hide an iPhone on under s sofa cushion for voice only...well once he reviewed it ..he found out sitter was abusing the Baby....smart doodle...I think these Doods if they were mistreated at groomers would refuse to enter the establishment. What do you think?

I hate this.  So hard to understand why anyone would do these kinds of things.
