Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have just seen the new movie Marley and me. I don't want to give anything away, but I am happy to say that Labradoodles are mentioned early in the movie, as the main character is considering getting a dog. They end up with a lab, although I believe we do see a labradoodle in two scenes. (obedience class and the beach)

This is certainly a movie for all dog lovers! Go see it soon. (bring kleenex!)

Please read my blog before you take your daughter. It may be helpful.....
I was going to take my grandkids to see this next week... I will not be taking them now. Thank you, for the information.
Your welcome. :o) I'm sure there are some kids that would do OK. Mine are pretty sheltered. If I had it to do again, I'd take them to see Bedtime Stories. It looks like it's more geared toward kids.... Then, I'd go see Marley with a friend.
I wouldn't take a 7-yr-old to see the movie unless she is very mature and sophisticated. There is a good description and coverage of canine euthanasia at the end of the movie, but also a beautiful part with the children participating in the burial of the dog. It follows the book closely. I am not at all surprised that many parents took their children without even reading the book. I wonder how they would explain this to a child.
I didn't read the book so I am not familiar witht he story. We saw previews at the movies and the promo on TV and it looks like a fun movie. Thus, we were planning to see the movie while the girls (8 and 5) are on school break. After reading your comments here I wonder if it is appropriate for kids. Please let me know, I don't want to traumatize the kids.
I don't think I would take your daughters. I suggest that you watch it at home when it comes out on DVD and turn it off after the football scene! The tears start after that. My sons are 15 and 18 and I will discourage them from seeing it at the theater. They can watch it at home. However, I must say it is a wonderful movie - just like life - up and downs, laughter and tears. I couldn't wait to get home from the theater to hug my Bodi!!!
"Marley and Me" held the number 1 spot on the New York Times Bestseller List for 23 weeks, broke all kinds of records for non-fiction sales, and had the highest sales of any hardcover book (including Harry Potter) in the year 2006. It made publishing history. I read it in the fall of 2005 when it came out, e-mailed John Grogan the day I finished it, in tears, and actually got a personal e-mail response from John which I will treasure always. (A week later, he stop accepting & responding to personal e-mails...they were coming in at a rate of something like 80,000 a day!)
I think most dog movies and stories make people cry. Bad things happen to a lot of the dogs even in the Disney movies. But whether you take your kids or not, I highly recommend you read the book, anyway. It is uproariously funny. John Grogan is a newspaper columnist & has great skill with humor, and I am sure the movie can't capture the dry, tongue-in-cheek laugh-out-loud phrasing of the book. Even the author's acknowledgments will warm your heart.
Such an awesome movie!!! i didn't think i was going to cry! i didn't read the book but now i want to! i did see a doodle in 2 scenes!! i think i was the only one in the whole theatre that yelled! "LOOK THERES A DOODLE!" LOL
It was funny when the guy from Greys Anatomy suggested a labradoodle to Owen Wilsons character. I felt like shouting out in the theatre ............yes Doodles rock!
I can't wait to see this movie.
I started reading the book and then I kind of knew what the ending was going to be so I didn't finish it. My family and I went to see the movie last night and I cried at the ending. My grown boys cried too! You just keep thinking about your own pet. Not sure if it is a good movie for some kids.
I really want to see the movie.. but I am one of those people who sobs.. and keeps sobbing well after the movie is over.. two days later I can think about it and sob all over again.. soooooooooo I think I may see it but I think I'll take one of the posters advice and leave after the football game scene.. especially after having to put my 11 year old german shepherd down in November... it's just too soon... but I am glad the movie is good.
